Tuberculosis training in Nigeria

Shu-Hua Wang, GOHi director of implementation science and research, and Alfred Lardizabal, Rutgers Global Tuberculosis Institute executive director, were invited by the United Nations International Office of Migration to provide training for more than 50 Nigerian healthcare providers on tuberculosis. The training in Lagos, Nigeria was sponsored by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Twinning project closing conference

Since 2015, the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Gondar have collaborated on a twinning project to align their veterinary medicine curricula with the World Organisation for Animal Health Recommendations on Competencies of Graduating (Day 1) Veterinarians. On September 23, the University of Gondar hosted a one-day Twinning Project Closing Conference to summarize all activities, achievements and impacts, share experiences and get feedback for future activities.

GOHi paper published in "One Health"

Wondwossen Gebreyes, GOHi executive director, and Celso Oliveira, professor at the Federal University of Paraíba, recently published a paper together entitled "One Health: Connecting environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) practices for a better world." This paper will be published in the December edition of "One Health."

Infectious Diseases Institute: Pallavi Oruganti

Pallavi Oruganti, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Ohio State, participated in GOHi-funded research in South Africa for the Summer Research Program in 2019. As part of the Infectious Diseases Institute TEDxOSU Trainee Speaker Training Program, she recently gave a presentation on her findings from her research.

GOHi helps establish two additional molecular diagnostics labs in Ethiopia

GOHi, through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, helped establish advanced molecular diagnostic laboratory capabilities, marking five labs that GOHi helped found in Ethiopia. These labs will strengthen the national surveillance and response system by enabling the detection of infectious diseases such as influenza, COVID-19 and other pathogens of public health significance.
