ASC Global Sourcing Division Case Study Number 124
Our customer was interested to know what the difference would be on a printed circuit board assembly they had quoted themselves in China vs a quote from an ASC approved supplier. While ASC has numerous domestic supplier partners to make a difference it was obvious in order to be competitive, we needed to quote a partner in Vietnam. To be clear this opportunity was based on three separate PCB Assemblies. The customer requested a turnkey quote which would include not only supplying the assembly but also the material (no substitutes), programming and testing in addition to the applicable duties, tariff, and airfreight to their facility in the US. Knowing just how competitive a quote from China could be, we accepted the challenge.
After a few weeks we were given a costed Bill of Materials to review to make sure that we were satisfied that only approved manufacturers were used and that the pricing given was consistent with our expectations. We were not surprised to find out that our instructions (no substitutes) were followed precisely but we were also given options that if our customer would allow substitutes what the price could be reduced to. Data sheets of those proposed options were included for our review.
While you may think you have competitive prices from a low-cost country it doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t another supplier out there that meets or exceeds the quality and delivery criteria you require. You just have to be willing and have the time to investigate other options.
