If you have been watching the news recently, you have probably heard about the global chip shortage, which is expected to persist until at least the second quarter of 2022.
Because there are now chips in everything from gaming systems and phones to washing machines and cars, demand will continue to remain high even as the supply is constrained.
The bottlenecks in manufacturing these chips are exasperated by inventory hoarding and shipping delays, which all result in higher prices and a widening gap between order placement and order fulfillment.
How does this affect you and your plans to get students back into the classroom?
While it is difficult to predict the full scope of how this will impact your school and your budget, we do know for certain that if you are planning on using large numbers of MIFARE®/ DESFire® or other SmartCards this year, you should order them immediately as both cost and lead times are likely to increase significantly the longer you wait.
This is a global problem that will affect customers in every industry that relies on chip technologies. While we hope that manufacturers are able to ramp back up quickly, there are no guarantees as to when things will return to normal.
In the meantime, we promise to do everything we can to fill your orders as quickly as we possibly can. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly or call us toll-free at 800.486.1312 to speak with an Identity Expert today.
