DOUBLE SALE!
Blood Sugar Special Issue!

Dear Steve,
DID YOU KNOW that silymarin, the active ingredient in the herb milk thistle, when added to a statin, not only protects the liver, but can bring LDL cholesterol levels even lower and raise HDL, according to a study in Phytotherapy Research?
Most of you may know silymarin (milk thistle) for its liver nourishing capabilities. Statin drugs, prescribed to reduce cholesterol, can have an adverse affect on liver enzymes which cause a host of side effects including worsening blood sugar. Thus, silymarin protects the liver but also helps optimize the same pathways to lower cholesterol that statins do.

New Magnesium Gummy!
Pure Encapsulations introduced a magnesium citrate gummy. While citrate is not our ideal a source for magnesium (glycinate is our favorite), it is still a viable source for those who cannot swallow a pill. It is contraindicated for those with loose bowels.

Warning: Counterfeit, Adulterated Supplements Online | On the internet, especially at Amazon, there is an epidemic of counterfeit, adulterated, and purposely mislabeled dietary supplements. In September 2023, a man was arrested for selling counterfeit Pure Encapsulations products. A study from JAMA Network Open found that half of immune products analyzed from Amazon had labels that did not match the contents. The FDA sent a warning letter to Amazon in late December 2023. | |

Steve: You don't always need to focus on fiber and whole grains for blood sugar balance. There are many people who for digestive reasons do not tolerate many forms of supplemental fiber and whole grains. What are these people to do to keep their blood sugar under control? Stick to low glycemic index/load foods.
According to a study from The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, a diet with a low glycemic index (GI) had similar protective effects against diabetes and other chronic diseases as a diet high in fiber and whole grains.
Five years ago, The World Health Organization (WHO) promoted fiber and whole grains to manage type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer but rejected glycemic index and load as a relevant dietary factor to prevent chronic diseases.
The Lancet study examined associations of glycemic index, glycemic load, and fiber and whole grains with the WHO outcomes of interest in adults with the average age of 56 years, following them for almost 13 years.
Compared with fiber and whole grains, low glycemic index/load diets were associated with an almost identically reduced risk for: type 2 diabetes, total cardiovascular disease, diabetes-related cancers, and all-cause mortality.
Foods with high glycemic index and load were associated with an increased risk for incident type 2 diabetes and total cardiovascular disease compared to foods with a low glycemic index/load.
A diet rich in fiber, tolerated whole grains WITH low glycemic index/load foods is the best option. However, for many who cannot tolerate fiber and whole grains, there is a wonderful, safe option to prevent blood sugar disorders and more.
