ASPARAGUS

Available from California and Mexico, there’s a perfect pick for every department. And what a good thing, as springtime feasts and holiday meals just aren’t complete without snappy, sweet asparagus. Be sure to let your Account Rep know you want to bring in bundles of these tasty spears!

BEN YAGI SWEET POTATO

Boasting the superfood qualities of purple vegetables, the cooking qualities of a Japanese sweet potato and the flavor of an orange sweet potato, organic Ben Yagi is an all-star variety. Sure to add visual appeal to dry tables and intrigue in recipes, this sweet potato is sure to become a favorite! Don’t miss the Sweet Potato Toolkit where you’ll find the answer to the burning question: is it a yam or a sweet potato? (Hint: it’s a sweet potato!)

ARTICHOKES

“It’s actually a flower bud,” is a great conversation starter and sure to pique the interest of shoppers not yet in the know. A delicious addition to spring meals, whether as a side dish or the main event, organic artichokes are all over menus this season. Be sure to have plenty on-hand and inspire meals by cross-merchandising with lemons, garlic, herbs and even wedges of Parmesan.

TDE (Tasty, Delicious & Exceptional) Mandarins

Technically the T, D and E stand for Temple Tangor, Dancy and Encore--the parentage from which this flavor-rich mandarin draws its traits. But whatever it takes for you to remember the name, we won’t judge.

This triple-cross variety is a triple-threat: easy-peeling, seedless and a total flavor bomb. Ideal for fresh eating, TDE also makes an exquisite glass of juice.

Available now in great volume, and with bagged and bulk options, you can take your pick of how to best entice shoppers. The perfect addition to late-season citrus displays and the answer to “what’s good right now?” don’t miss this opportunity to go big on organic TDE!

NW Purple Sprouting Broccoli Update: Soon!

This year’s cold wet winter and rainy first weeks of spring has resulted in a slow start to many Northwest crops, and fan-favorite organic Purple Sprouting Broccoli (PSB) is one of them. If you’re wondering, “isn’t it usually on by now?” You’re not wrong.

Typically available by mid- to late-March, this season it will be mid-April before we see the first trickles.

Keep your fingers crossed for the warmer, sunnier weather PSB needs to really take off. It looks to be just around the corner!

New & Exciting

Bagged Citrus

Because everyone is probably going to buy a whole bag of mandarins anyway we now have TDE and Murcott mandarins in handy 2 lb. bags for snacking made easy.

Fuerte Avocado

This is our avocado buyer's favorite green skinned avocado. With a flavor described as grassy with a lemony finish and hints of hazelnut, it's no surprise why! Expand avocado-lovers repertoire with fantastic Fuerte.

Import Pears

For produce departments and menus pining for variety, you’re in luck. Argentinian Durondeau and Alexander Lucas pears are back!

Jicama

Did you know jicama is actually a member if the Fabaceae family which includes peas? That's probably why one if its nicknames is "yam bean." This unique root veg pairs perfectly with citrus in salads and slaw and slices up easily for sensational snacking.

New Crop Potatoes

Adding to new crop yellow A potatoes this week, we are seeing the first of the desert new crop red A, too!

NW Cauliflower

Less mileage = more green. The math adds up as a limited supply of NW-grown cauli becomes available next week from our friends at Hedlin—a great option for the planet-conscious shopper.

NW Purple Sprouting Broccoli

A small amount of this early NW crop will hit the dock next week. Years ago, OGC partnered with several NW growers to test out this season extending crop. Purple Sprouting Broccoli proved to be a winner and has since become a spring veg that eaters ask for by name!

NW Rhubarb

This stunning vegetable is generally treated like a fruit. Baked into pies, or simmered into jam and chutney, its tangy taste and bright pinks stalks feel decidedly springy. Much anticipated, be one of the first to bring some in this season.

Pummelo

Back after a gap and ready to wow loyalists and new fans alike. Eaters will delight at their impressive size, sweet grapefruity flavor and texture that's uniquely pummelo.

Purple Sweet Potatoes

There are some exciting new additions to our sweet potato program! We've added Ben Yagi, which boasts vibrantly-hued flesh and skin and we will soon have deep-purple Stokes and lavender Okinawa.

Wildcrafted Morel Mushroom

What is it about Morel mushrooms that makes folks go wild? Their earthy, nutty flavor that's distinct but not overpowering? That they are an excellent complement to spring greens, asparagus, and Sugar Snap peas? Perhaps it's their ruffled appearance that expertly camouflages against the forest floor, resulting in many a fruitless hunt? Save shoppers the hassle, and bring in this highly desirable spring mushroom.

Yellow Dragon Fruit

If you're missing a little Seuss-inspired fruit in your tropical set, don't miss out on this beautiful addition.

Changing Market

Artichoke

Large 12 ct. artichokes are limited for the next week but there will be some gorgeous purple chokes and slightly smaller 18 ct. at a great price.

Berries

Cool temps and wet weather have caused delays and shortages on all types of berries. Blueberries are limited from MX and the US as fruit has been slow to ripen and larger packs will be very hard to find until closer to the end of April. Blackberries, raspberries and strawberries are all being prorated due to similar quality issues.

Broccoli

Prices are going up on bunches, crowns and baby broccoli as production leaves the desert and moves to the still struggling Salinas Valley.

Bulk Beets

Supplies are all moving to CA on red and gold beets, driving prices up.

Bunch Spinach

Spinach, like most of the leafy greens, is slow to get going this spring. A small amount is available from the NW but expect gaps.

Cauliflower

Due to transition, expect higher prices and gapping.

Leaf Lettuce

The transition north is causing a really wild leaf lettuce market. Prices are up with limited supply on most types. Romaine and Butter lettuce seem to be the most consistent for now. Red and green leaf supply should improve by the end of next week.

Mangos

Packing sheds in MX are closed for Easter which may cause tight supply by the end of the week.

Peas

Supply will improve next week. Price is coming down on Snow peas, but Snap and English are up a bit.

Radicchio

This darling of the culinary scene shines in the fall and winter, but now it's time for its spring break.

Promotable

Bunch Carrot

With promotions available through Easter, the bunnies will be bouncing with excitement.

Cherry Type Tomatoes

"Great things are done by a series of small things brought together." Van Gogh was clearly speaking about cherry tomatoes when he said that, and we agree. OGC is here to bring the small things together for a pint-sized price tag so your shoppers can go big.

English & Persian Cukes

Persian and English cucumbers boast thin skin, sweet flavor and small seeds. Shoppers looking to snack can turn their gaze to these two crunchy, tasty types.

Maitake and Shiitake Mushrooms

A step away from the familiar, these two types are bound for greatness. Earthy, savory Shiitake earns top marks across the board, while rich and meaty Maitake magnifies everything around it. All they need is a place to stand out.

Mandarins

You'll miss them when they're gone so grab some TDE, Tango, Murcott, and Gold Nugget mandarins before they disappear.

Navel Orange

The apex of the season is here, so make sure to bring in this classic before its gone. So quintessential, when folks say "orange" they rarely realize it's a Navel.

NW Apples

A trio of tasty apples are up for promotion this week. Shoppers fancy a Fuji? Crave a Cosmic Crisp? We've got them both! Sugar Bee lives up to its namesake with an intensely sweet apple flavor. Give eaters a chance to discover a new fave or fall back to a classic.

Poppies and Brites

Have you heard of any tasty tomatoes on a vine that showcase that farm-to-table look? Perhaps packed and prepped for maximum freshness? Something that combines all that, and is affordable? Yeah, we know the type!

Summer Squash

“Spring squash” may not be a thing, but loads of yellow and green summer squash are hitting our dock like it's their season. And just like summer, they are barbecue-bound and get-together friendly!

Vine Tomato

TOV! We've got your TOV here! Tomato on the Vine is ripe and ready for promotion.
