Love One Another Fundraiser
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
NVCATM's National Junior Honor Society held a “Love One Another” fundraiser in February to benefit the Phoenix Rescue Mission. “Love” themed collection boxes were given to all K–5 classes, middle school homerooms, and high school first period classes. Students were encouraged to bring in their spare change to make a difference in the lives of those who do not have adequate housing, food, or clothing. Our students are very openhearted and responded in kind. We raised a total of $1,050.
A weekly competition was also held to determine the elementary, middle school, and high school classes that donated the most money each week. Mrs. Mergener’s third grade class contributed the most money each week for the elementary competition. Likewise, Mr. Murton’s eighth grade homeroom won each week for middle school contributions. For high school, Mr. Robles’s first hour Theology won two weeks, Mrs. Walker’s first hour Geometry class won one week, and Mrs. Fox’s first hour SSC won the remaining week.
We’d like to thank Mrs. Amy Piette for her generous donation that made our weekly competitions possible. NJHS is hoping to make this fundraiser an annual event to encourage love for our neighbors.

Spiritual Emphasis Week
Every year at NVCA, staff and students alike pour their hearts into Spiritual Emphasis Week. Not only is it a week to reflect on Christ's death and resurrection, but also it is a week that presents opportunity to share faith with one another.
CHAPEL SERVICES
During Spiritual Emphasis Week, March 29–April 1, students in all grades participated in daily chapel services. In preparation for Resurrection Sunday, students worshipped in song, prayed together, and heard uplifting messages about salvation, grace, and life everlasting.
PRESCHOOL 4 CROSSWALK
Our preschool 4 students made beautiful paper crosses of many colors and scattered them across the walkways throughout building A. Staff and students encouraged everyone to pick up a cross and carry it with them as a reminder of all that we cherish about Holy Week.

"The angel said to the women,
“Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.
Come and see the place where he lay."
(Matthew 28:5–6)

An Evening of Inspiration It Was
|

It Happened at Anthem
Country Club
This year's auction and dinner was held on March 5, at the beautiful Anthem Country Club. It truly was an evening of inspiration. The event was sold out, and more than 330 people attended. We are so grateful to have raised more than $130,000 for our school.
WE APPRECIATE YOU
We wholeheartedly thank our presenting sponsor, Rooter Ranger, and all of our diamond, platinum, silver, and bronze sponsors for your generous contributions. We also thank our valet sponsor and Epic Party Team for providing the services and equipment enabling the event to go on without a hitch.
To all those who donated items and personal/recreational experiences, we could not have done it without you and we thank you very much. In addition, thank you to all of our special sponsors and those who provided classroom baskets, which raised $21,000 for teachers to order supportive materials for their classrooms. Some teachers have already begun placing their orders.
This evening of inspiration was the result of months of hard work by the auction committee, chaired by Nancy Ball and Carlye Bogue, and a number of tireless volunteers. We cannot thank you enough for all your efforts to make this year's auction and dinner such a huge success.
ALL SET FOR NEXT YEAR
Next year, we will hold the auction and dinner on March 4, at the Chateau Luxe in Phoenix. Mark your calendars now, and we'll see you then!

2021 AIA Boys Basketball Champions!

Life Lessons and Moments
to Remember
Walking off the floor after losing the 2020 AIA State Championship last March, our players were not only disappointed but also determined to have another chance for the trophy. The graduating seniors were especially very disappointed, and the returning players wanted another opportunity as well, particularly after seeing the emotional impact on the graduating seniors.
PERSEVERANCE
The hope of NVCA athletics staff is to teach life lessons to our players through the game of basketball. Lots of characteristics can be taken away to use throughout life. One of those is perseverance. That is the characteristic that describes this year’s team. Many unexpected circumstances over the last year made this season very challenging. In March, after many schools closed, we were very limited on how much time the boys could spend training in the gym. They did not have a summer season, a camp, or any time together as a team. These times together are very crucial in forming a basketball team. Nevertheless, the boys persevered and found ways to work on their game, to spend time together, and condition themselves. They woke up very early to shoot hoops, run the mountain, and play the game.
NO WAVERING
Once the season finally began, it was shut down almost immediately, only to be restarted a few days later. Our players struggled with many questions and wondered if all their work was going to pay off. In life, sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.
In December, half of the team became ill with COVID-like conditions, and practice was shut down for more than three weeks for health and safety per our school's strict policies. Through all of these challenges, however, the boys never became frustrated as a team. They continued to work on their game when and where they could and stayed in touch with one another.
When the season officially started, our players continued to persevere and display a strong work ethic while traveling across the state to play against larger schools. The seniors, Braeden Roberts, Kai Marusteri, RayJ Roman, and Josh Walker, led by example and helped bring the younger players along in their game.
TESTAMENT OF BROTHERHOOD
AND DETERMINATION
Coach Walker recalls, "Once we got to the State Championship game, I will always remember the look of determination on each player’s face and the togetherness they showed in the locker room, and after the game the joy that was on each player's face was not just about the winning but about the closeness they shared and an understanding of what they had gone through as a basketball team over the last year. To each player, it was about the journey to get there, not just winning the State Championship."
