Call for GoMCon Tools Café presentations now open

The Tools Café is back at GoMCon! This is a great opportunity to share your online or paper-based tool in an interactive format with stakeholders from across the Gulf of Mexico. Tool topics can include coastal resilience, data management, flood mapping, habitat assessment, citizen science monitoring, and more.


The deadline for Tools Café applications is February 28th

GOMA welcomes new Communication Manager

The Gulf of Mexico Alliance is pleased to welcome Amanda Nalley as our new Communication Manager. Amanda comes to GOMA from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, where she worked for 10 years as a Public Information Specialist in the Division of Marine Fisheries Management. She has also worked as a reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat and brings her expertise in writing, photography, and storytelling to the GOMA team.

2021 Gulf Star Program report is now available

GOMA's 2021 Gulf Star Program report is now available! This report highlights our ongoing support for projects that focus on healthy habitats, wildlife, fisheries, and resilient coastal communities.


The Gulf Star Program is a unique public-private partnership that leverages contributions from agencies and businesses to fund projects without requiring match funds from grant recipients.

CITGO joins GOMA's Gulf Star Program

CITGO has joined GOMA's Gulf Star Program as our most recent partner. Their funding supports work in Galveston Bay, Texas, to improve conservation for diamondback terrapin turtles.


“As a local resident, I am proud of the work being done by the Gulf of Mexico Alliance in bringing private and public resources together to help protect the amazingly diverse wildlife and coastal habitats for a healthy Galveston Bay,” said Balvy Bhogal-Mitro, Vice President of Strategic and Corporate Planning at CITGO.

GOMA accepting nominations for Business Advisory Council

GOMA invites representatives from industries operating in and around the Gulf of Mexico to join our Business Advisory Council. The council includes representatives from tourism, oil and gas, energy, manufacturing, transportation, fishing, seafood processing, agriculture, and environmental contractors/consultants.

Strategic Conservation Assessment hosting final round of stakeholder charrettes

The Strategic Conservation Assessment team is hosting a final round of stakeholder charrettes in February and March 2022 to provide an overview of the tool for new users, demonstrate how the tool suite can inform land conservation, and explore advanced functions to get the most out of the tools suite. Dates in "Events" below.


Federal interagency team releases new progress report for "America the Beautiful" initiative

An interagency group of federal partners have released a new progress report highlighting work on the America the Beautiful initiative. In addition, public comment is now open on the development of the American Conservation and Stewardship Atlas, a new tool to share information on land and water conservation and restoration activities. The deadline for comments is March 4.


Public comment open for offshore wind leasing draft environmental assessment

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is preparing a draft environmental assessment (EA) to consider potential offshore wind leasing in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Public comment is open until February 9 and the draft EA will be completed this summer.


GCOOS Board of Directors accepting nominations

The Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System (GCOOS) invites colleagues and organizations interested in serving on the Board of Directors to submit a nomination beginning February 18. More information available here.


Mississippi DEQ announces update to restoration project portal and asks for comment on multiyear implementation plan

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is updating their Restoration Project Portal to archive projects that have already been funded or are not feasible for restoration consideration; the updated portal will launch in April. MDEQ is also seeking public review and comment on their Multiyear Implementation Plan until March 14. Read more here.
