DCTA's GoZone Celebrates Two-Year Anniversary

Denton County Transportation Authority's (DCTA) GoZone on-demand rideshare has hit a two-year milestone of transportation services to thousands of riders every month.

Since launching in September 2021, GoZone has gained popularity for its on-demand transit programs with monthly ridership peaking at more than 77,000 rides in May 2023. As of mid-August, GoZone has completed more than 1.3 million rides.

“In just two years, GoZone has greatly impacted the public transit landscape in Denton County by providing service that meets unique needs across our member cities,” said Paul Cristina, CEO at DCTA.

“GoZone is delivering thousands of riders to where they need and want to go as a critical part of our suite of transit options, and DCTA is proud to be a national leader in integrating on-demand transit and fixed route network assets.”

ZIPZONE Trinity Metro has expanded a zone called the Southside, which gives access to the Medical District, Magnolia Ave, TCU, Texas Wesleyan, the Fort Worth Zoo and the Botanic Gardens.

“I did not know what ZIPZONE was, but I would use this service instead of walking,” said Emmerie Harris, a first-year biology major.

To use the service, students can download the Trinity Metro ZIPZONE app, follow the simple sign-up steps, book your ride, and then meet your driver. The alternative to downloading the app is to call 817-215-8600.

DART Cares Program Aims to Help Unhoused Residents Find Shelter

Beginning next month, Dallas Area Rapid Transit will begin testing a program to respond to the needs of riders experiencing homelessness.

The goal of the DART Cares program is to get riders who are struggling with housing — especially those who depend on buses and trains for shelter — on-site care and ultimately, into more stable situations.

This year’s point-in-time count found just over 4,200 people experiencing homelessness in Dallas and Collin counties — but that number could be higher.

“DART’s always been concerned and been trying to help those who are experiencing homelessness,” said Brad Cummings, vice president of Business Services for DART. “Our board and our CEO have established over the last few years a really large drive to increase the safety, reliability and cleanliness at our system and have been able to put money where that purpose is.”
