In late May and early June, an ACCTS staff member traveled to Moldova and Ukraine to encourage the MCFs there and initiate planning for American English Language Training camps planned for July. Here is his report:
In Galatians 5:22-25 we read that
"the
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law...If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit." These verses became very real to me as the Lord abundantly provided for all my needs on this intensive, strategic planning trip to Europe.
Moldova Highlights:
The main purpose of this trip was to meet with the administrator of the Moldova military hospital to finalize arrangements for this year's English language camp during the period 30 June to 08 July 2019. We were also able to visit the camp and check out the facilities. Boys will sleep in small buildings like those pictured here, while the girls will sleep in a larger dormitory-style building on the grounds of this Ministry of Defense camp.
During my visit, I was able to meet with and encourage our resident Moldova staff and their family, and to assist with some English language discussion for her class on their final day of school. On Sunday afternoon, I participated in her English club-an activity that had started following last year's English camp
Ukraine highlights:
While in Ukraine (28 May to 03 June), I was able to visit friends in Cherkassy. He oversees the chaplaincy program at Cherkassy military hospital-an excellent example of continuing work of volunteer chaplains in Ukraine. The pastor of a Greek Catholic Church in Cherkassy is responsible for chaplaincy within the Archdiocese of Kiev (covering five regions).
The 32
ndprayer and planning session of the Ukrainian MCF took place on Saturday, 01 June. Thirty Ukrainian delegates and I attended the one-day event. The theme of the conference was to remain constant in prayer, taken from 1 John 5:13-15.
On Sunday afternoon, my friend arranged a special luncheon that included military chaplains and an active duty officer. This was an excellent opportunity to get an update on the five-year-old war in eastern Ukraine.
I am thankful for the Lord's provision for stamina, maximum use of available time, excellent meetings, and opportunities to fellowship with long-time friends.
Please pray:
Moldova
: for the ACCTS staff as they lead the Moldovan MCF and for the fruits of the English camp that took place on 30 June - 8 July; for a meaningful camping experience for the kids attending, and that the spiritual lessons learned might be effective in showing them the need to follow Jesus.
Ukraine: for the leaders of the Ukrainian MCF; for the fruits of their summer programs (English camp for kids, 4-day camp for military widows) in leading participants to Christ; for the chaplaincy work provided by the Baptist Union; and for additional financial resources to meet the growing ministry needs of this war-torn country.
