"God at Work"

October 2020 - I-RMH

ACCTS' mission is to assist in the development of Christian leaders in the uniformed forces of the world and in the establishment and growth of military Christian fellowships (MCFs). We do this to achieve our vision that one day, every person in uniform will have heard the Gospel from someone wearing that same uniform.

I-RMH helps to accomplish that mission.. A joint venture between ACCTS and Officers' Christian Fellowship (OCF), the program is held in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The curriculum focuses on learning how to plan, lead, and grow a military Christian fellowship (MCF) while serving in the military. Participants learn how MCFs function, how they impact militaries and nations worldwide, and how each person's vision and growth in leadership and ministry skills contributes to the MCF. Some of the topics covered in I-RMH include:
  • Christian Leadership in the Military: interaction and discussion with mature Christian leaders.
  • Spiritual Development: personal discipleship and group Bible study.
  • Conversational Prayer: learning to talk with God in personal and group contexts.
  • Strategic Planning: how to set achievable personal and group goals.
  • Chaplains: the importance of chaplains to military readiness, and how to support them.
  • Building and Sustaining Strong Relationships: why spiritual relationships are important, and how to establish and sustain them.
  • Military Service as a Ministry: how to minister appropriately as a Christian in the military.
These spiritual lessons are applied in such activities as:
  • Home stays with military Christians in the area.
  • Mountain climbing, rappelling, white-water rafting, mountain biking, and sports.
  • Visiting various points of interest in Colorado Springs and the Rockies.
  • Tours of the US Air Force Academy and other local military bases.
A young officer from Uganda attended I-RMH in 2019. At a recent virtual gathering of ACCTS staff, he gave a short presentation on ministry in his country.  Here's what he said: "During I RMH, I encountered God in a literal mountain top experience. God spoke to me and I understood clearly my destiny. When I came back to Uganda I began to organize joint forces crusades comprising police forces, correctional service forces, and military fellowships. I organized a crusade in Butallejja District for over 2,000 people at which 323 people gave their lives to Christ in a place dominated by Muslims and traditionalists (people who fear witch doctors more than God). As a joint forces fellowship, I was given permission to minister in the quarters of prison wardens and their families, where over 200 people gave their lives to Christ. One of these officers then led 1,000 correctional services trainees to Christ. Due to our prayers, the new chief of the training wing also directed that trainees could practice their faith on Sunday.

I also had opportunities to minister on radio. During COVID-19, my cousin set a goal to reach 100 people for Christ. He achieved his goal, including one lady who was paralytic for 3 years and couldn't move. He used the principle of conversational  prayer I was taught at I RMH, and to his surprise, the lady was completely healed in Jesus. Glory be to God!

Prior to I-RMH, I had written a book called "The Front Line" that compared the soldier's life to Christian Life.   After I-RMH, I was inspired to write another book about testimonies from the battle field. During the  Bakara Market battle in Somalia (when a Black Hawk Helicopter was shot down), three of our NCOS decided to go on a three-day fast. God told them that they would win the war with no resistance. They told their platoon sergeant about what God had said, and he laughed, saying they were suffering from battle fatigue. Surprisingly, it was confirmed the next morning that the rebels had simply abandoned the market with no explanation to date."

Uganda has no chaplains, and ministry within the Ugandan military and police forces is provided by volunteers.  They have weekly Zoom meetings (5-7 participants), as well as WhatsApp to communicate with one another for prayer meetings, Bible study, sharing testimonies, and encouragement.  It was noted that Ivan had traveled 10 miles to get an internet connection for the virtual ACCTS meeting."

Pray for military Christians in Uganda, that the Lord will continue to guard and guide them, and that other participants in I-RMH will be similarly inspired to minister to their uniformed services.
