The Fellowship of Christian Military Ministries (FCMM) is an affiliation of para-church ministries which have been called to join God’s work in military societies around the world. The purpose of the FCMM is to focus the efforts of the various military ministries through prayer and cooperation as they do God’s work at various locations around the world. There is no formal membership because associated military ministries are connected relationally and through collaboration at the national and local levels.
In 1989, an ACCTS staff member identified the need for a cooperative effort among ministries with an outreach to the uniformed forces. In 1990 and 1991, the first two meetings were held in Washington, DC as the "Symposium of Military Ministries." Subsequently, ACCTS encouraged other organizations to provide leadership, and the name was changed to the Fellowship of Christian Military Ministries (FCMM). The FCMM Covenant was adopted during this period:
“Recognizing that wherever two or three of us are together at one location Jesus Christ is among us, we covenant to: Love one another; Pray for one another; Encourage one another; Support one another; Meet with one another; Communicate with one another; Coordinate with one another; Cooperate with one another; To the end that Jesus Christ might be exalted at our location.”
Affiliated ministries share common convictions about the Bible and the person and work of Jesus Christ. Each ministry has its own statement of faith, but the FCMM Covenant serves as our core values. Affiliated organizations share similar callings and affirm the need for support, camaraderie, collaboration, and fellowship with those from other military ministries and like-minded organizations.
FCMM affiliates recognize that each has been called to a particular mission in the building of His kingdom, but that the common purpose of each ministry is to exalt Jesus Christ within the military services. The leaders of each organization are agreed that the major benefit of the FCMM is realized when the FCMM covenant is practiced at the working ministry level, and annual FCMM gatherings to that end have been held since, with leadership rotating between the 9 founding ministries. ACCTS and Christian Military Fellowship are organizing the March 2023 conference at a military minded church in the suburbs of the nation’s capital.
Since some affiliates minster to the US Military, and some to international militaries, the theme for the 2023 conference will be “Enlarging our Territory through Collaboration and Cooperation,” taken from the prayer of Jabez. The program will address ways in which military ministries can work more closely together to build God’s kingdom throughout the global community of uniformed services “that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in me, and I am in You…so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” (Jn. 17:21)
Normally a Community Dinner is held in conjunction with the annual conference to provide opportunities for networking among military, members, military ministries, churches, chaplains, and other like-minded ministries. Host ministries plan the event as the concluding session of the conference as a gathering for individuals from the community interested in military Ministry.
Pray for ACCTS and CMF as they plan the 2023 FCMM conference, asking that God will guide and guard the arrangements, that those who attend will be blessed by the program, and that the importance of ministry to the uniformed services of the world will be made known.
