God at the Center

This Sunday we finish our summerlong Game of Thrones, Bible Edition. I hope you’ve enjoyed this soapy saga about the kings of Israel, and I hope our preachers have helped you make connections across the millennia to our own lives with God. I know I’ve enjoyed this summer every bit as much as last year, when we journeyed through Genesis.


It’s so important that we engage the whole Bible – including the Old Testament – not only as being about “those people, over there, back then,” but also as being about us, here and now. To call the Bible the “Word of God” doesn’t mean that we believe it was literally dictated to people by God and is therefore always inerrant; it means that we believe the Bible conveys sacred truths about who God is and what that means for us. God is able to speak through these texts, including stories that make us cringe, such as the fall of King David, so it’s essential that we approach them with open and listening hearts.


Our journey through the books of Samuel began back in June with the people of God clamoring for a king, and it will end this weekend in 1 Kings with Solomon dedicating the newly built Temple. There is a rich irony here that is important to notice. The people felt that God wasn’t ...

Figs With Kids Mom's Night Out


Figs with Kids MOMS! Please join us for our next Moms Night Out (MNO) this Sunday, August 25. We will meet for a casual get together in the church Parlor from 6:30pm - 7:30pm; please bring an appetizer or something sweet to share. BYOB. 


Figs with Kids ministry serves to connect a community of parents with kids who live at home - from diapers to 12th grade! - through fellowship, education, worship, and outreach. Hope to see you at MNO!

Becoming a Delegate to Diocesan Convention from our congregation ensures our voice is heard on important matters of our larger church life. There is one week left to throw your hat into the ring to become a Diocesan Delegate. The Deadline to submit your application is next Friday, August 30. The coming year will see important engagements including the election of a successor to our Diocesan Bishop.

Listening Sessions


The Bishop Search Committee is grateful for all the people of the Diocese and Transfiguration who shared their thoughts on the search for a Bishop Coadjutor for the Diocese of Dallas. Now that the survey is complete, they are hosting three listening sessions to which the laity are invited. You will have snapshots of the survey results and an opportunity to engage in dialog,

Volunteer to be a Receptionist


As we approach the beginning of our Program Year, we are looking for several people to augment our existing group of volunteers. Duties include answering the phone, providing information and direction to callers and visitors, and assisting as necessary. Hours normally are Monday-Friday 9:00am-Noon and 1:00-4:00pm. We have a number of slots available. If you have time, and want to assist your fellow parishioners and our guests, please let us know.

Brown Bags for Food Pantry


Our Food Pantry Ministry fills countless bags of much needed groceries for families each month. We need your help stocking up on bags. Donate your clean, un-torn, brown paper bags with handles to the Food Pantry.


There's plenty of time to collect bags and bring them to the Church. The Food Pantry will be organizing its next food distribution on Monday, September 16. Volunteers are welcome and no experience is necessary but your brown paper bags are!

Youth Acolyte Training


We are looking for new youth acolytes, age 8 to 17. Acolytes serve about twice a quarter at the 9:00am service. It is a great way for children to participate in and learn about the church service. A training for those interested will be held Saturday, September 7 at 8:30am.
