2nd Sunday of Advent | Dec 8, 2019
We've reached the end of another semester and I wish to express my gratitude to all of the students who have participated in our ministry and shared their faith with one another over the past few months. Whether on retreats, in small groups, in our catechetical discussions or just in the individual conversations we have around CCM, it has been a blessing to me to witness how students are responding to God's grace. I thank you and wish all of you a wonderful break. I will be praying for all of you during exam week.

Please note in our schedule below that we will have Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Monday at 12:15pm. The only other scheduled campus ministry activity is our regular community service on Tuesday afternoon. The Catholic Student Center will be open throughout exam week during the day for any who need a place to pray, to study, or unwind.

In this Sunday's gospel, we find John the Baptist calling for us to "repent for the kingdom of heaven is near" and to "prepare the way of the Lord." In my video reflection this week, I talk about not only how we should heed John's call to repentance, but also follow his example and be heralds of good news! • 3:00pm: Confession
  • 3:30pm: Rosary
  • 4:00pm: MASS
  • 5:15: Senior Send-off

This Sunday Mass will include a blessing for our seniors who are graduating next week. After Mass, instead of our usual Credo catechetical discussion, we will have a spacial send-off for our seniors.

NOTE: This is the final Sunday Mass of the Semester.
MONDAY - Dec 9
  • 12:15: Mass for the Immaculate Conception

Monday is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Because it falls on a Monday this year, it is not observed as a holy day of obligation. However, we will still be offering Mass on campus for any who wish to attend.

There will also be Masses at St. Mary's at 9:00 am and 6:30 pm.
TUESDAY - Dec 10

  • 3:30-6pm: Community Table Volunteer Service

We volunteer every Tuesday at the Community Table in Sylva to feed hot meals to those in need from 4-6pm. Meet at CCM by 3:30 to ride together.

Give Your Heart Away, the Diocese of Charlotte's annual Service Weekend for college students, is a bit earlier this year, so don't miss out. We will once again be travelling to Hickory to spend a weekend in service to our neighbors and learning about the traditions of social justice in the Catholic Church. Click here for more information.
St. Thomas Aquinas' Prayer Before Study

Ineffable Creator, Who out of the treasures of Thy wisdom has appointed three hierarchies of Angels and set them in admirable order high above the heavens and has disposed the diverse portions of the universe in such marvelous array, Thou Who art called the True Source of Light and supereminent Principle of Wisdom, be pleased to cast a beam of Thy radiance upon the darkness of my mind and dispel from me the double darkness of sin and ignorance in which I have been born.

Thou Who makes eloquent the tongues of little children, fashion my words and pour upon my lips the grace of Thy benediction. Grant me penetration to understand, capacity to retain, method and facility in study, subtlety in interpretation and abundant grace of expression. Order the beginning, direct the progress and perfect the achievement of my work, Thou Who art true God and true Man and livest and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
