“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” – 2 Corinthians 9:15

The verse referenced above is one frequently quoted during the Christmas season, and the context is almost always regarding God’s gift of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. But a careful reading of the text preceding this verse suggests something not nearly so clear and obvious. In the verses before, the Apostle Paul is expressing thanks for the “gift” (i.e., offerings) the Christians at Corinth have pledged and committed to the poor in Jerusalem. It is in anticipation, even expectation, of the Corinthians’ generous gift that the words quoted above exude from Paul’s pen. You see, giving is an opportunity for believers to join with God in meeting the needs of the needy, and He increases the ability of those who give generously to give even more. And for those who are observers to this divine generosity, it should cause our thankfulness to God to overflow because giving of this sort can only come from one impetus; we give because we have been the recipients of God’s greatest Gift.

Daybreak was recently a witness to that type of giving. Reliable transportation is a real issue for many of our clients, and such was the case with Jamichael. The husband of Jennifer and father of four young boys had no vehicle and was dependent on public transportation to get to his place of work. Visits to Daybreak for supplies often required either the city bus or a ride from family members and friends. In a consultation with Jamichael, Lori Baker, Daybreak’s Director of Client Services, asked if he had any prayer requests, and he mentioned his need for a vehicle. So, according to Lori, “We prayed for that and thanked God for his love and protection.”

A short time later, Lori received a phone call from Tami Smith. Tami and her husband Jim are the principals of Christian Brothers Automotive Irmo, a local automobile maintenance and repair facility. They called to see if Daybreak had a client who needed a vehicle, and, of course, we had Jamichael! Lori was able to put Tami and Jim in touch with Jamichael, and a short time later, Jamichael and his family were owners of a dependable vehicle which could transport their entire family! Of this incredible situation, I could only imagine the Apostle Paul exclaiming, “Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!”

It is a remarkable thing when the people of God use the resources God has provided them to support Gospel endeavors. That was the motive of the wonderful folks at Christian Brothers Automotive Irmo, and that is the motive of the remarkably generous supporters of Daybreak. Your gifts provide a tangible answer to prayer for the many who come to us for help, and we certainly could not do what we do without your Gospel-motivated support. Thank you for your gifts to Daybreak. We pray that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas, as the church universal joins together in a single voice, thanking God for Jesus – His inexpressible gift!

Friends of Daybreak

For over four decades now Daybreak has been a presence for life throughout the Midlands, advocating for women, men and the preborn. At Daybreak, we continue to envision a community where every person is transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and empowered to make Christ-centered choices that lead to abundant life.

As we approach the end of the year, Daybreak and the clients we serve continue to depend on donors like you to help fund this life-saving work. Every service and form of material assistance that Daybreak provides is free of charge to our clients, but there is still a cost. Thankfully, the generosity of the Daybreak community has helped to cover that cost since the very beginning, and for that we are grateful. But there is work left to be done, and the need in our community is great.

Julie Armstrong

Biblical Counselor

"This journey started with a prayer. I had been serving in women’s ministry at a local church for eighteen years, yet as I entered a new decade of life, I sensed that God wanted me to be open to new opportunities He was going to bring. Even though I was very comfortable where I was, I prayed that He would interrupt my plans and let this be the most fruitful season of my life so far. Little did I know where that prayer would lead me!"
