Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

~Psalms 119:103

Those are wonderful words from Psalms, teaching how God’s word, the Bible, is a light for our life. It is a lamp unto our feet. If you think about that, God’s Word is like a flashlight in the dark of night and a lighted path ahead.

The word “Word” is often referred to as a name for Jesus the Christ. In the Gospel of John 1, we read:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all humankind.

Our light is God in Christ. When we are in Christ, we are in God. We live in Him and He lives in us and we have this light.

We need light to see what is right in front of us, and light to see what lies ahead. If you point a flashlight down, as in the light onto my feet, you can see what is right in front of you, what is directly in your path. We can see the pitfalls and obstacles nearby.

But just that isn’t enough. We also need to see where we are going. We need a light on the pathway ahead. And God’s word is there too! God’s word sheds the light on the right way to go on the path ahead. God’s word keeps us on the right pathway.

Don’t forget to let God’s Word shine His truth on your feet and your path every day!
