Ealing Abbey Choir Mass and Concert
Ealing Abbey Choir was founded in 1910 by Dom Cyril Rylance (1880–1958), a monk of the monastery, coming into existence as the Catholic Church in England was rediscovering its musical heritage through the works of Renaissance composers and Gregorian chant. The choir’s repertoire of Gregorian chant and Latin polyphony today also includes works by composers such as Jonathan Dove and Eric Whitacre. READ MORE

My dear parishioners,
You have seen in the e-letter and in this week's events sheet distributed by the ministers of hospitality that we are participating in a national survey sponsored by CARA. CARA is the major Catholic research group in the U.S. I was on its board for several years, and I attest to its work. CARA has been commissioned to do a major interfaith survey to help gauge how the COVID pandemic has affected your faith life, worship life, and spirituality. It is designed to be responded to by any adult who participates in parish life in any way. This is a major undertaking in our country. Please, may I ask you to take a few moments to take the survey. It will help us here at St. Matthew's to better meet your needs. So please, I encourage you to respond. It is available in many ways: e-letter, events sheet, website, parish emails, and parish social media.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

Liturgical Ministries Sign Up | A Message from Fr. Joe | |
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And I said, “Here am I; send me!” – Isaiah 6:8
We have the best volunteer ministers I have ever encountered in any parish of which I have had the privilege of ministering. It’s the aspect of life in our parish community that has most impressed me since my arrival in July. There’s just one problem: there’s not enough!
Have you ever thought to yourself that it would be nice to have another minister of hospitality to warmly welcome those who come through our doors or to distribute our newsletter as folks leave?
Have you ever been disappointed that the Precious Blood isn’t offered at a Mass you attend here?
Have you ever thought that a robust corps of servers adds reverence and dignity to our worship?
These and similar thoughts aren’t just your thoughts. They are echoes of the desire of God himself, the longings of his heart to minister to his beloved children through the hands and voices of their brothers and sisters. Your hands. Your voice.
The Lord is calling you to respond with the generous reply of the prophet Isaiah: here I am Lord! Use me to build up your family here at the mother Church of Washington!
This month, we are recruiting new ministers of hospitality, new extraordinary ministers of communion, new servers, and new lectors.
The challenge I and my fellow priests propose to you is to respond generously. We and your fellow parishioners need you. Even if you can or prefer to serve only once or twice a month: we would be so happy to have you.
Know you will be well-trained by our fantastic coordinators. Know you will be welcomed into a new community within our parish community: the community of ministers. Know that God is never outdone in being generous to those who are generous to him.
To respond and learn more, complete the interest form linked HERE. Or fill-out the interest form found in the pew and drop it in the collection basket.
You may also sign up at the back of the Cathedral after Masses the weekend of October 19 and 20.
Our liturgical ministry training will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 9am to Noon.
Thank you for your generosity! ~Fr. Joe
