Ascension Lutheran Church, Shelby
Each year in September congregations across the ELCA celebrate God's Work, Our Hands Sunday and participate in projects to be God's Hands in our communities and world. See projects from past years.

This year at Ascension, we are going to use Our Hands (and dollars) to do God's Work and respond to the recent hurricanes in the southeast.
Last month Hurricane Fred brought torrential rain and flooding to western North Carolina and a few weeks later, Hurricane Ida made landfall in southern Louisiana, plunging New Orleans into darkness and causing catastrophic damage.
Ways to Help
Flood Buckets
Our ecumenical and full communion partner The United Methodist Church's Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has provided this packing list to fill "flood buckets" that are being distributed in areas recovering from floods.
With the help of a Thrivent Action grant, we have purchased 5-gallon buckets and are inviting you to pick one up at worship or from the office (Mon., Wed. 9-1) and then pick up the supplies you need to fill the bucket. Return your filled buckets on Sunday, September 26. We'll combine our collection with Aldersgate United Methodist to resupply the Western North Carolina Conference who is working to provide relief in hard hit Haywood County.

Download the packing list. You can also mail a $75 donation to the church. Please make it payable to Ascension Lutheran Church and put "Flood Buckets" in the memo line so it gets to the right place.
Lutheran Disaster Relief
LDR supports long-term case management and care during recovery. Learn more.

You can also mail your donation to the church. Please make it payable to Ascension Lutheran Church and put "LDR Hurricane Response" in the memo line and we'll make sure the money gets to LDR.

Pray
Keep all those affected by the impact of Hurricanes Fred and Ida in your prayers. Pray for first responders, government officials, Lutheran Disaster Response and other relief organizations, for the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod’s disaster team and staff and for the UMCOR team and staff.
