But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you can trust those who taught you.
II Timothy 3:14, NLT
A major decision made by the Vatican recently reminds us that societal pressure is alive and well, and even the greatest leaders of the Christian faith may modify their beliefs because of societal pressure.
When Timothy, a pastor during biblical times, was tempted to modify his beliefs because of the societal pressure he faced while living in his society, Paul, his father in the ministry, encouraged Timothy to go back to the basics of his beliefs by remembering to:
*Remain faithful to what he had already been taught about God's Word (14a).
*Remain faithful to what he knew was true about God's Word (verse 14b).
*Remain faithful to the guidance and instruction God's Word provided him for his life (verses 16, 17).
As in Timothy’s society, the pressure to modify our beliefs to adapt to today's culture is alive and well. When you're tempted to modify what you know to be true about God's Word because of today’s societal pressure, take some time to go back to the basics.

Today's Prayer: Father, help me to remain faithful, despite societal pressure, to what I know is true about You and Your Word. Amen.
