Featured Artist, Witha Lacuesta
by Luanne Faulkender

Witha (pronounced Vita) Lacuesta, was born in Frankfurt, Germany into a family of artists. She has a proud heritage starting with her Great Grandfather, a carriage designer, her Grandmother a fashion designer in Paris and her father whom she refers to as a renaissance man who painted for his pleasure until after the war, when he painted to give his family food, clothing and shelter. When a toddler, she picked up a brush and side by side daughter and father painted.
At age fourteen, Witha took art classes at a museum. But not until 1998 when she arrived at IRCC did her art ambition explode and her creative juices flow with abandon. She excels in French knot embroidery, sculpture, watercolor, oil, encaustic, quilting, miniature scenes and so much more. Witha joyfully states, “My inspiration is from everywhere!” Her paintings are seen in Disney’s and other prominent collections including IRCC. Visit this renaissance woman March 8 -10 th, in Vero Beach, Under the Oaks Art Show.
Eleven Degrees from the North Pole by Luanne Faulkender

The viewing of the “Historical Icon” recognized in Paul Eitel’s newly restored and revised presentation of Eleven Degrees from the North Pole wins accolades. Our very own IRCC resident, Paul Eitel at the age of sixteen, sailed the adventure of his lifetime with the worlds renowned explorer Commander Donald B. MacMillan. Eitel crewed, filmed and journaled his adventure into the Arctic Circle. “Rear Admiral Donald B. MacMillan USNR was the greatest Arctic explorer!” Eitel exclaims, “And I can explain why I believe this to be true.” Additionally, MacMillan was one of six recipients of the prestigious Peary Polar Expedition Medal.
Wildlife at IRCC
A mecca for both amateur and professional photographers, our lakes attract hundreds of species of birds, including waterfowl, Roseate Spoonbills, raptors such as Osprey, Red Shoulder Hawks and several Bald Eagles. Whether you photograph birds or just enjoy nature and the sight of various wildlife right in your own back yard, you will love your home here at IRCC.
Below is a photo of the visiting American White pelicans, who come each year and fill the lakes. Photo taken by IRCC resident, Eileen Malatino.

Info: Welcome Back to Florida, American White Pelicans
Picture this. Exquisite large birds glide gracefully along the shoreline just inches above the water. If you weren’t looking through binoculars, you’d think you were watching a flock of swans. However, these beautiful birds are white pelicans. Distinctive with snowy white feathers and pink-tangerine colored bills, they are often seen flying and swimming in groups. Shy in nature, they prefer isolated areas, congregating close together while remaining less social than their cousin, the brown pelican.
One of the largest birds in North America, with a 9-foot wingspan. Similar to Brown Pelican in shape, but much larger, and very different in habits: Occurs far inland, feeds cooperatively in shallow lakes, does not dive from the air for fish
(Above) This Red-shouldered hawk decided to watch the rocket launch from atop a flagpole.
Info: Whether wheeling over a swamp forest or whistling plaintively from a riverine park, a Red-shouldered Hawk is typically a sign of tall woods and water. It’s one of our most distinctively marked common hawks, with barred reddish-peachy underparts and a strongly banded tail. In flight, translucent crescents near the wingtips help to identify the species at a distance. These forest hawks hunt prey ranging from mice to frogs and snakes.
IRCC Resident, Ken Keskinen displays wood carvings.
We are so proud of Ken Keskinen who won “Best of Show” at the Space Coast Wood Carvers Show with his “Red Shoulder Hawk on Carved Falconer’s Glove”. That was just one of many extraordinary pieces Ken displayed at IRCC Marketplace.
