10 & Under Junior Play Day Under the Lights

Now that the heat is upon us, we are hosting a 10 & Under Play Day under the lights on Sunday evening, July 29th at 6:30pm. This is actually a family affair where we encourage everyone to come out and support the young players. There will be a fun carnival court for prizes, and some match play for the more competitive kids. The key to the event is that the kids have fun! Every child that is 10 years old and under are encouraged to come out even if they have never played before! The price is $10 per child and includes hot dog dinner and prizes. Family members can also eat for only $2 per person. Get your child involved in a sport that will last a lifetime!

Josh Josh's Tennis Tip

Stand Up Straight

Stand up straight; a phrase made famous by parents and teachers all over the country.  Good posture and balance are also key ingredients to a great overall tennis game.
When you go after a ball, it is essential that you keep your upper body level and balanced.  If you are leaning forward, it's easy to hit the ball too far in front.  If you are leaning backward, you'll hit off your back foot and launch the ball to the fence.
A good way to force yourself to stay balanced is to keep your shoulders level.  If either shoulder is dipping up or down, you know you're leaning into your shot.  And as hard as it may be, when you get a low ball, try to bend down instead of leaning down.
Everyone should practice this at home by walking around your house with a tennis racquet in your hand and a book on your head.  And take lots of pictures.

4th of July Hours
The club will be closing at 5pm on the 4th of July.  Summer Camp will be held at its regular time.

Learn Chanoyu, Tea Ceremony

Member Jim Fabian will be hosting a Chanoyu Tea Ceremony. This will be a fun introduction to the art of the Oriental Tea Ceremony which dates back over a thousand years.  The gathering will be held on Sunday, July 22nd at 12pm and is free for members. The class will run for about 30-45 minutes. Please sign up in advance.
