We'd love to have you join us!

Reunite with fellow alumni and friends as we honor the 2026 Ballard High School Foundation Golden Beavers Scholarship Award recipients.

This year, we are proud to present the third year of Hughbanks Family Scholarships, named for our friend and Foundation co-founder C. David Hughbanks '54. C. David granted a substantial portion of his estate to the Golden Beavers Scholarship Committee, to bestow upon worthy applicants attending schools and trade programs locally in Washington state.

Join friends and family to recognize this group of hard-working seniors. Let's congratulate their efforts! You do not need to be a Golden Beaver to attend this celebration of Ballard High School achievers.

We Look Forward to Seeing You Sunday, June 7.

Sincerely,

Phil Brockman '76

These Scholarships Will Be Announced

The Golden Beavers Scholarships

The Golden Beavers Scholarship Program is meant to stimulate, within the Ballard student body, the desire to achieve goals that prepare them for advanced education and/or training upon graduation.

Hughbanks Family Scholarships

For a third outstanding year, life-changing funds are available from the estate of Ballard High School Foundation Co-Founder C. David Hughbanks ’54. Awards are given to students who have an array of interests, backgrounds, academic achievements, and post-high school educational goals, who will be pursuing college or trade education in Washington state.

Tim Nygard '01 "Legacy" Ballard Scholarships

In memory of Tim Nygard '01 who passed in March 2023 after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Nygard is the son, brother and nephew of Ballard graduates. These scholarships are being bestowed on two graduating Beavers with legacy roots who model character, compassion and friendship with other students.

John "Jack" Lawson Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Ballard High School Golden Beaver Past President and Scholarship Chair Jack Lawson '52. Jack was a very strong advocate for Golden Beaver Scholarships and worked tirelessly to benefit as many graduating seniors as possible.

Einar Johanson Scholarship

In gratitude to Einar Johanson '47 for his significant donation in support of graduating seniors. Einar, a longtime Sunset Hill resident, successful business owner, was still an active member of the Ballard community before passing on Dec. 3, 2023, at the age of 94. He was a generous supporter of Ballard High School and many community organizations.

Judith "Judy" Olson Rikansrud Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Ballard High School Foundation Board Member and Past President, and Golden Beaver Membership Chair Judy Olson Rikansrud '58. For more than 20 years, Judy tirelessly gave of her time, energy and financial resources to support the Ballard High School Beavers. A smile always appeared when BHS became part of any conversation.

McMuldroch-Lathrop Family Scholarships

Parents Chris McMuldroch and Jennifer Lathrop honor their connection to Ballard HS through these generous gifts. Chris served as a Robotics Team mentor for more than 10 years (longer than the couple's children attended BHS). He also benefitted as a scholarship recipient when he graduated from high school.

New This Year

Laurie (Detert) Anderson '53 Memorial Scholarship

In honor of the Ballard High School Foundation's past Recording Secretary, Golden Beavers Scholarship Committee Member, and very generous Beaver alumni.

Dick Mitchell '51 Memorial Scholarship

In gratitude for Dick’s support of the Foundation and Golden Beavers. He served in leadership terms for both groups and was outspoken in his support of the scholarship program.
