NEWS FROM THE GRAND BASILEUS

International Grand Basileus Deborah Catchings-Smith
Spring is here! I am excited about the opportunities for our sisterhood as we continue to spring into action to be intentional and impactful in our communities. As I traveled to each regional conference, I am confident that we are a sisterhood for the future. I loved hearing about the great work that is being done nationally and internationally. I am proud of our progress!

Happy Mother's Day!

GROWTH IN OUR SISTERHOOD

International First Grand Anti-Basileus Rasheeda Liberty
We are quickly approaching the end of a great year for membership growth from a recruitment, reactivation and retention perspective. Our membership goals, as outlined by each regional syntaktes and her team, were definitely a stretch, yet attainable. It's time to see how we are doing.

Compared to prior year, 2015-16, we are up 10 percent. The  Western Region has the highest contribution, outpacing the prior year numbers by over 12 percent.

Nearly 98 percent of our membership is considered a returning or reactivating member. The Southeastern Region has the largest returning membership percentage.

We are at 98.7 percent of our membership goal to deliver our Centennial commitment for 2016 - 2017. The Southeastern Region has achieved its goal for this sorority year, with some other regions tracking closely. Here is how each region is performing against this goal, as well as the number of members still needed:

Central Region                  99.3% (12)
Northeastern Region         96.5% (72)
Southeastern Region        100.6%
Southwestern Region        96.8% (35)
Western Region                90.2% (63)

The Southeastern Region has the largest membership composition, at 28 percent, with both the Northeastern and Central Regions within 200 members. The Southwestern and Western Regions are experiencing strong growth versus prior year and compared to their individual membership goals.

Centennial Chapters (100+ Members), as of May 2017
Alpha Sigma, Central Region
Eta Sigma, Southeastern Region
Alpha Lambda Sigma, Central Region
Eta Xi Sigma, Central Region
Eta Nu Sigma, Northeastern Region

Sesquicentennial Chapters (150+ Members), as of May 2017
Lambda Delta Sigma, Northeastern Region
Delta Sigma, Central Region (Largest Chapter in the Sisterhood)

Attracting and retaining membership are the responsibility of each member of our organization. We are all accountable for growing and sowing into our membership to deliver on our motto and fulfill the vision of our Founders. Let's keep up the great work and close the year strong. We can do it!

Our undergraduate newsletter, Prissy & Precise, will be making a comeback this fall! In preparation, we are looking for a few undergraduate sorors from each region to help the youth service coordiantors (YSCs) and myself run the newsletter. Please contact me at  secondgrand@sgrho1922.org if you have skills in the digital arts, editing or other skills that will be useful in the production of the newsletter.

Lastly, as regional conference season has come to a close, I would like to say thank you to the sorors in all the regions for always being sisterly and hospitable to me. I hope to see you all at the Special Boule. Love you all!

NOTE FROM THE IGE

International Grand Epistoleus Angela Spears
I am so excited about the 2017 Special Boule! I look forw ard to being a part of a session that will shape the future of our great sisterhood. Our voices will be heard. Our voices matter.

Anytime we meet for a boule, I love seeing my sisters from all over the country. I have developed lasting friendships and have made professional connections. I plan to continue this tradition in Las Vegas.

Soror Maggie Longley, the 2017 Special Boule hostess, can't wait for us to visit her city. " Las Vegas is an exciting place. It's the city of lights and action. That's what the Special Boule will be, a time to let our lights shine  and to continue growing as an organization."

What are you looking forward to most about the Special Boule? Please let me know. Send your message and picture to pressoffice@sgrho1922.org.  I look forward to sharing your story on our social media sites.

The  regular registration rate  ends May 11, so please register today! I will see you in Las Vegas as we vote on  important changes that will contribute to the growth of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
