NEWS FROM THE GRAND BASILEUS

International Grand Basileus Deborah Catchings-Smith
95th Founders' Observance
It was an exhilarating November! The celebration of achieving our significant milestone of 95 years of sisterhood, service and scholarship was epic. We thank all Sorors, Philos and Rhoers from across the globe who engaged in service outreach with the determination to positively impact our communities!

Together, we exceeded our 7,000 November Community Service Hours goal by 194.57 percent, reporting 13,620 service hours to date. There is still time to report your November service hours. The deadline is Dec. 9. We can all be proud of our continued elevation to be intentional, impactful and deliberate about achieving measurable outcomes for the amazing work that we do in our communities!

We salute the Centennial Committee chair, Past International Grand Basileus Joann
Loveless, Co-Chair Soror Karen Williams, International Founders' Day Chair Soror LaTonya Theus Nelson, Founders' Day Co-Chair Soror Martha Riley, International Grand Epistoleus Soror Angela Spears, regional epistolei, headquarters staff and the planning committee for their outstanding leadership in coordinating and executing the International Day of Service! It was exciting to witness the collective service outreach across the nation on social media that displayed our community service efforts to the world on Facebook Live and other platforms.

Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors Annual Meeting (AFAAM)
The Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors Annual Meeting (AFAAM) in Atlanta was tremendously productive. The AFA Conference affords the opportunity for national and regional leadership to engage in relevant workshop specific to the Greek community and to meet with campus professionals who support our undergraduates on university and college campuses. Kudos to our regional leadership for their focused engagement throughout the conference and their hard work! Special thanks to the Atlanta Metropolitan Sorors for their wonderful hospitality extended to the leadership!

Technology Infrastructure Update
We are making significant progress on the technology front with the impending January 2018 roll out of the member-facing application that will be used to instantly document your Community Service Hours on your mobile device, tablet or laptop. We applaud all those who
have been engaged in the beta testing of the app and those who have attended the technology webinars offered over the past several weeks. Special thanks to our Technology Team lead by Soror Crystal Rock, National Programs chair, Soror Jacqueline Greely, and our headquarters staff for their hard work to move this initiative forward. More exciting technology news will be shared in the coming months!

As we bring 2017 to a close, we want express a resounding THANK YOU for your dedication, commitment and hard work in moving our sisterhood forward! It is because of your tireless efforts that we have achieved significant milestones throughout this year. Your phenomenal sisterhood is invaluable and is the foundation of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. On behalf of the International Board of Directors and headquarters staff, I extend to you unlimited love, an abundance of peace, endless joy and immeasurable prosperity for the New Year. Happy Holidays!
DECEMBER IS A TIME FOR APPRECIATION

International First Grand Anti-Basileus Rasheeda Liberty
A s we continue to experience unprecedented growth, implement new technology and execute the decisions of the Grand Chapter, there is one group/entity that is working around the clock - our International Corporate Headquarters. Our team is comprised of less than 10 staff members, supporting members, affiliates, vendors and external partners.

During the month of December, we are asking  individual members,  chapters,  areas and regions to help us in thanking the team. Whether through a simple call, a text message, email, card in the mail, nice gesture or gift, a "thank you" is always appreciated by this hardwo rking team.
A WORD FROM THE SECOND GRAND

International Second Grand Anti-Basileus Kathrina Ruiz
Thank you all for the support we've been receiving for "Prissy & Precise." It's been delightful being able to feature our undergraduates on Instagram @PrissyAndPrecise.

I do ask that you please email article submissions to  secondgrand@sgrho1922.org. Don't forget to tag us in the photos you post of the fall T.O.R.C.H. Classes.

As this sorority year approaches its halfway mark, so does my last
year
in office. That being said, I would like everyone with even the smallest interest in undergraduate leadership to reach out to me so that we can discuss what the second grand and youth service coordinator (YSC) roles look like. This position has been a blessing in my life and I would like to help prepare other sorors to run for this office the way Immediate Past International Second Grand Anti-Basileus Knyra Ratcliff did for me!

Please do not hesitate to contact me for anything.

MUCH MORE THAN A HASHTAG

The Much More Than A Hashtag Initiative was born out of an idea from International Legal Advisor Debra Hughes and the National Social Action chair for  Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. It became an adopted collaboration between the two groups and in 2016, leaders signed an official memorandum of understanding (MOU). The purpose of the initiative is to empower our communities through education and then, encourage and assist them through action.

We did not want to post a hashtag and be done. We are much more than a hashtag, through action. There are five areas of concern: Voter Deputization and Registration, Grand Jury, Police/Citizen Review Boards, Property Taxes and Home Owners' Associations. Much More Than A Hashtag can be a seminar, town hall meeting or other mechanism to educate and empower the community.

Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Phi Theta are proud to work in collaboration to affect change.
