NEWS FROM THE GRAND BASILEUS

International Grand Basileus Deborah Catchings-Smith

Our sorority year is quickly coming to a close. I am extremely delighted about what we have accomplished together and excited about what's in store. We have substantially strengthened our partnerships with St. Jude, March of Dimes and USA Swimming that has extended our community service outreach. Our community service efforts and impacts are unparalleled!   Thank you for your commitment to the mission and goals of Sigma Gamma Rho.

The International Membership Satisfaction Survey closed in May and we are pleased to report that we exceed our participation goal.  This initiative is a component of our Going for Sigma Gold 2015-2018 Strategic Plan. The results are being compiled and will be shared with the membership. Thank you for using your voice!

I look forward to seeing Sorors and Philos in Las Vegas for our 2017 Special Boule, July 21 - 22. It will be a busy two days that will also allow time for networking and bonding. We will review the proposed recommendations and bylaw amendments associated with the Going for Sigma Gold 2015 - 2018 Strategic Plan. You should have received
the proposed recommendations and bylaws changes for your review.

Registered Sorors will have an opportunity to ask questions about the recom
men dations and bylaws during a Referendum Session. It will be held on Thursday, July 20 from 3 - 6 p.m. Your participation and input are invaluable as the proposed changes will assist in setting the course for the future of our sisterhood.

You still have time to register. Late registration for the Special Boule ends June 12. The rate is $400 for Graduate Sorors and Philos and $250 for Undergraduates.  Additional "Mem ber Benefit" prizes will be awarded to registered Sorors and Philos that will be anno unced l eading up to the Special Boule and on-site!

We are excited about being the first international sorority selected as the Premier Sponsor of the 2017 FINA Junior World Swimming Championships that will be held August 23-28, 2017 at Ind
iana University/Purdue University (IUPUI) in Indianapolis, Indiana. This selection is a result of the phenomenal support by Chapters, Sorors and Affiliates of the Swim 1922 initiative. Because of your efforts, we were able to demonstrate our drowning prevention impact in our communities. The championship will be televised on NBC Sports featuring more than 1,000 athletes from over 100 countries with a potential audience viewership of over 40 million households around the world. More information will be shared on ways in which all members can participate and support this historic event! Details regarding the purchase of tickets are provided later in this communique'.

As a reminder, our International Day of Service will occur on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Our focus is the H3 Program comprised of healthy choices, healthy living and healthy generations to promote overall health. Additional details are located in this communique'.

I want to congratulate all of our spring 2017 graduates. I am so proud of your accomplishment and the success to come during your next chapter. I wish you the best and look forward
to hearing about and seeing your continued contributions to our great sisterhood!

Many chapters and affiliates will take some time off for the summer. Please enjoy a well-deserved break and let's return rejuvenated in our desire to positively impacts in our communities. I am thrilled about the opportunities ahead for our sisterhood as we continue to be intentional and impactful while yielding measurable results!

                  CELEBRATING SUCCESS
International First Grand Anti-Basileus Rasheeda Liberty

What Gets Measured Gets Done! We are proud to report that we have exceeded our membership goal for the 2016-17 sorority year, with 12%+ increase. As you may recall, the Regional Syntakti submitted their region goal which aggregated to the overall goal. We are on track to deliver our Centennial target. Special thanks to both the Southeastern Region and Central Region for exceeding their goals. Chapter profile reports have been released to each basileus that outline your chapter's efforts related to recruitment, retention and reclamation.

In celebrating our success, we are actively planning for our near future, the 2017-2018 sorority year with some special initiatives. Our Sister Coaching program has successfully completed Phase I, receiving several applicants for Sister Coach roles. The team is now working to develop a special curriculum for our coaches, in preparation for our soft launch in the Fall and full launch in the Spring. If you have applied to be a coach, you will be contacted with next steps in the near future.

As a reminder, we will be headed to New Orleans to market our Swim 1922 initiative and celebrate the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. with a "meet and greet" event on Saturday, July 1st. If you are attending the Essence Music Festival, stay tuned for our booth location and day party details.

Thank you for a great year of growth for our sisterhood.
