HUMANIZATION: The Artistic Eye of Arthello Beck Jr.

The Opening Exhibit and Reception was held Thursday Night at the African American Museum as dignitaries paid tribute to artist and Dallas native, the late Arthello Beck, Jr. Ella Goode Johnson, Chair of the CIty of Dallas Arts and Culture Advisory Commission, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, Dallas CIty Councilwoman Carolyn King Arnold, Dallas Office of Arts and Culture Director Jennifer Scripps and Williams Chicken Founder and CEO Hiawatha Williams were program participants with Mr. Beck's widow, Mae Beck, Dr. Harry Robinson and Curator/Artist Jennifer Cowley. The event was sponsored by Williams Chicken and City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture.
There will be an Artist Talk Back Event with Mrs. Beck, Carl Sidle and Jennifer Monet Cowley and moderated by Missy Burton on Saturday at 11am at the Museum.

North Texas Black and Korean American business leaders commit to building stronger ties
The communities hope to put contentious years farther in the past by improving communication and cooperating on commercial and social issues.

Business leaders in North Texas’ Black and Korean American communities are starting a dialogue about how they can support and work more closely with each other. Many Korean American business owners operate in parts of the city that have historical ties to the Black community, including South Dallas and Oak Cliff.

DALLAS – In honor of Women’s History Month, a dedicated time to commemorate, celebrate, and explore the vital role of women in world history, the Broughton-Wells Center for Gender Justice (BWCGJ) at Friendship-West Baptist Church is hosting its annual lecture series featuring Rev. Dr. Yolanda Pierce, Dean of the School of Divinity at Howard University, Washington, D.C.; Rev. Dr. Irie Lynn Session, co-pastor of the Gathering, A Womanist Church; and Dr. Stacie McCormick, D’Andra Willis, and Qiana Arnold of The Afiya Center, to discuss the contributions of women to society and the importance of gender equality.

Anthony Deshun Wilson, an 18-year-old senior at Lincoln High School, was caught in the crossfire, police have said. Those injured ranged from 15 to 21.


An 18-year-old man who was one of 10 injured outside a South Dallas event venue last weekend has died. Anthony Deshun Wilson had been taken to a hospital in critical condition after the early Sunday shooting outside The Space Dallas venue in the 5200 block of Botham Jean Boulevard. The venue has not replied to requests for comment.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Dallas Park and Recreation tackle health disparities among South Dallas residents
(DALLAS) – The Metropolitan Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated joins with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department to host an a Health and Wellness Expo at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 2901 Pennsylvania Ave, Dallas 75215. The free event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Families and individuals of all ages will can get a variety of health screenings, senior and mental health services and more from 50 specialized vendors. Event organizers have said the expo will connect residents with affordable resources families need to have a long, healthy life.

BROOKLYN — As New York City continues its recovery from the pandemic, it’s become a common sight to see people milling about along Clarkson Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue, the heart of central Brooklyn’s health care sector. In this corner, bordered by SUNY Downstate Medical Center to the south and Kings County Hospital on the north, patients have begun returning to the local hospitals for emergency and some routine visits.

Lawmakers questioned Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on March 22 as the Senate Judiciary Committee continues its Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court. After opening statements from Jackson, her colleagues and the senators March 21, senators will spend two days questioning Jackson at length about her rulings and judicial philosophy. On the final day of the hearings, March 24, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear from friends and colleagues of Jackson about her temperament and approach to the law.
