Land Stewardship Series continues through November

Classes started Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm and continue one Tuesday evening per month until November. The next session, Tree & Shrub removal, is April 8.


This hands-on series is designed for landowners, natural resource professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts looking to deepen their knowledge of managing Iowa’s unique ecosystems. Participants will explore topics such as tree and plant identification, invasive species management, herbicide application, equipment operation, trail design, tree and shrub removal, wildfire planning, and ecosystem restoration. Some classes will include fieldwork at off-site locations, offering real-world application and insights.


Registration closes 3 days prior to each class.

Southwest Iowa Farmer Collaboration

Join Golden Hills and Center for Rural Affairs for a discussion about building collaboration and strengthening our local food system in southwest Iowa. Connect with fellow farmers, food businesses and local food advocates as we discuss challenges and opportunities in our regional food system.

The discussion will be facilitated by staff from the Center for Rural Affairs and Golden Hills. The discussion will be led by Jordan Scheibel, founder of Middle Way Farm near Grinnell where he grows chemical-free and Certified Naturally Grown vegetables and transplants on four acres of leased land for Community Supported Agriculture shares, online sales and home delivery, farmers markets, food hubs, food service and grocery stores. Jordan has also worked for food hubs, FarmTable Delivery and Grinnell Farm to Table, and has a background in community and farmer to farmer education.

With a variety of educational exhibits, interactive activities, and informative presentations, attendees will learn about the importance of reducing waste, conserving energy, and preserving our natural resources. From local food trucks to environmental demos, Earth Day Omaha 2025 promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family!
