The most recent report from the California Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) predicts that Proposition 98 could see a surplus for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2021. The predicted abundance comes as a great surprise in light of the current economic downturn in California. Proposition 98 is the formula that determines funding for the K-12 and community college systems.

As the holiday season approaches and we prepare for a New Year, I can’t help but reflect on 2020 and prepare for putting in writing my resolutions for 2021. I wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2021 be filled with exciting times, tons of family outings and special moments with friends.

For several months I have told people that I am the most optimistic person on the State Staff. For some reason when I say that many people think I am being disingenuous. Apparently, some think I have a negative attitude. I guess that depends on perception. I view myself as a person with a positive outlook because I can see a clear path to progress.

Golden Owl Award returns to crown California’s top ag educator

From August 1 through December 31, 2020, students, parents, fellow teachers or other supporters can nominate their favorite agricultural teacher for a chance to be recognized as the best in California through the Golden Owl Award®. Nominations can be submitted online at GoldenOwlAward.com.

Southern Region Update

We are happy to report that so much has happened down in the Southern Region in the past few months that, despite everything going on in the world now, there is much to be thankful for! We are making adjustments, staying flexible, and preparing for some online LDE and CDE competitions.
