Panel on Houselessness and potential ballot issues open house
Last night, the City hosted two events back-to-back. An open house to answer questions about two potential ballot measures that City Council is considering
placing on the November 2021 election ballot met first at 5 p.m. City staff answered questions regarding a possible measure to authorize a tax on overnight commercial lodging that visitors to our community would pay, and another possible measure that would permit the retail sale of marijuana to adults. You can learn more about both of these issues at www.guidinggolden.com.

----------------------------------------------------------

Immediately following the open house, a meeting convened for the City to talk about some of the causes of homelessness locally and regionally, and address what the City is doing about it. Regional Coordinator Kelli Barker shared data and information from the county level, while our Homeless Navigator Rebekah Rudabaugh spoke about her work in Golden. The City Attorney discussed the constitutional and legal rights and boundaries involving the people who are unsheltered. The panel ended with information about how the City is addressing houselessness and discussing some of the challenges.

If you were unable to attend the Panel on Houselessness last night, we invite you to watch the recording of the meeting, and join the conversation at www.guidingGolden.com/homeless-conversation.

Golden Civic Foundation Grant
Golden Civic Foundation logo
The Golden Civic Foundation is now offering the Big Ideas in Golden (B.I.G.) Grants to support community projects that will make a BIG and lasting impact on the Golden community. In alignment with the Foundation's founding purpose “to operate for the charitable and civic purposes for the citizens and residents of the City of Golden,” the Foundation is looking for community members to submit “wish list” ideas for long-lasting projects. These ideas should be for projects that most likely will not be addressed by local, City of Golden tax funds and that will improve the quality of life for a broad base of the Golden community.

Learn more and submit your ideas online at www.goldencivicfoundation.org/b-i-g-grants/.
Movies & Music in the Park is back this August!
Join us in Parfet Park for three free, fun-filled family evenings listening to music and watching movies under the stars. Pack a picnic dinner or purchase food from some of our local food trucks. In keeping with our family friendly theme, alcohol will not be available for purchase and is not allowed in the park.

We’ll be sure to leave plenty of room in front of the stage for dancing because you won’t be able to sit still for the bands we have scheduled!

Up first on Friday, August 13

7 p.m. -- LAPOMPE is a swinging Denver-based band with deep roots in Parisian, 'Hot-Club' jazz, upbeat American Jazz standards and gypsy folk-tunes.

About 8:30 p.m. -- TOY STORY 4 follows the continued adventures of old friends Woody and Buzz and new friends Bonnie and Forky.

Special treat tonight! Save room for dessert because the Golden Fire Department will be serving up root beer floats. We’ll also have the Jefferson County Public Health pop-up vaccine clinic on site for those wishing to get vaccinated in a convenient location.

See the full schedule at www.cityofgolden.net/Movies&Music.
