City of Golden Weekly Digest December 27

Water & Wastewater Rates Increasing in January

In November 2023, City Council approved a 6.2% increase in water utility rates and a 5% increase in wastewater utility rates to take effect January 1, 2024. These increases will be seen on your January 2024 bill, averaging an additional $5 per month or $60 per year for a family of four using approximately 6,000 gallons of water per month.

These increases are necessary to maintaining quality and reliable water and wastewater services for Golden residents, and to contribute to required upgrades over the next few years at the Molson Coors Wastewater Treatment Plant, where Golden’s wastewater is treated.

Navigating Success on the Affordable Housing Bus Tour

Last week, the City of Golden partnered with Wheat Ridge, Arvada, and Foothills Regional Housing to host House Majority Leader Monica Duran and Senator Lisa Cutter on a tour to showcase the work our communities are doing to preserve and develop affordable housing. This tour included stops at a few Foothills Regional Housing Properties and Golden Hills Mobile Home Park.

The City of Golden supported the residents of Golden Hills in purchasing the mobile home park from its corporate owners this year to become a Resident-Owned Community (ROC). This will help stabilize the lot rents and encourage reinvestment in the park. It’s an excellent example of preserving existing affordable housing options in Golden. We were proud to highlight to our state legislators the importance of affordable housing preservation through local and state initiatives.
