DeLong Park Ribbon Cutting Next Week
Please join city officials for the DeLong Park Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, June 7 at 5:30 p.m. in DeLong Park, 395 23rd Street. The brief ceremony will mark the opening of Golden’s newest park! You can read more about the history of the park at GuidingGolden.com/delong-park.
Golden Parks and Recreation is using DeLong Park as a pilot project for the City’s first organic park location. This means that we will be using only natural, organic products for all plants and grasses. No synthetic chemicals will be used in our maintenance practices.
A group of weed-busting volunteers meets weekly at DeLong Park on Thursday mornings from 8 to 10 a.m. to weed out invasive species. Interested community members can join the group on Thursday mornings. Be on the lookout for more information about formally signing up to help keep DeLong Park pesticide-free as a volunteer.

Coffee with Councilors...in the Park!
|
|
Join your neighbors this Saturday, June 4 at 10 a.m. for Coffee with Councilors (CWC).
While the event is usually held in the Golden Community Center, this month, the location of the meeting has moved to Golden's brand new DeLong Park at 395 23rd St. DeLong Park is officially opening next week, so this will be a great chance to get a sneak peek!
Each month this year, the CWC discussion centers on a value from the Golden Vision 2030 document. This month, the discussion considers the value, “Convenience and community amenities”. We want to know how you see the City of Golden putting those values into practice, and how we can do better to reach our vision.
Bring your thoughts, ideas and questions, and let’s have a conversation!
If you’re unable to make it to the park in person, join us online from the comfort of your own home (bring your own coffee!).

Tree Limb Drop-off Following Our Spring Snowstorm
A tree limb collection site is still open at Golden Gate Canyon Road, just west of Newstar Way ( see the Google map). The tree limb collection site is primarily for Golden residents, and will remain open until Friday, June 3. For information about all tree limb drop-off sites around Jefferson County, please view JeffCo’s list of tree limb drop-off locations.
Additional resources and frequently asked questions about storm recovery
The tree limb drop-off site in Golden seems full--can I still drop off my fallen tree limbs there?
- At this time, the tree limb drop-off site is still active and accepting tree limb waste from the storm. City of Golden crews are actively working to consolidate drop-offs now to make adequate room for more tree limbs. Please check the city website for any updates about tree limb site closure.
Will the City clear branches from my street?
- The City of Golden will clear all streets and right of way. City crews will only dispose of branches from City parks or property; individual homeowners are responsible for disposing of any fallen branches from their trees.
Will the City pick up branches for me? What if I’m unable to get my branches to a drop-off site?
- Individual homeowners are responsible for disposing of their own tree and yard debris.
- If you are a resident of the City’s Pay as You Throw program, you can cut the branches in to smaller pieces to fit into your organic waste bin for regular pick up.
- If you still need assistance with removing and disposing of branches from your property, please reach out to a local landscaping company for assistance.

Phase 3 Xcel Helicopter & Crane Work (revised schedule)
If you hear a helicopter buzzing around Golden tomorrow, it's part of an ongoing effort to replace overhead electric poles as part of Xcel’s wildfire mitigation plan. Large cranes may also be seen around Golden today and Friday as part of the same effort
The helicopters fly light to compensate for the weight of the poles, which means they must make multiple landings in a cleared landing site to refuel, and a full road closure is necessary to accommodate the landing site. Traffic control measures are also necessary to ensure a safe operating perimeter for the large cranes.
Here are the upcoming permitted crane and helicopter operations and necessary road closures. Please be aware that flights are dependent on weather/wind conditions and are subject to change.
- Today, June 1: 7th Pl. between Ford St. and Boyd St. — One lane closure with flaggers on site.
- Today, June 1: Boyd St. between Clark St. and 7th Pl. — Full road closure.
- Friday, June 3: Belvedere St. between 18th St. and 19th St. — Full road closure.
- Thursday, June 2 & Tuesday, June 7: Peery Dr. — Full road closure for helicopter work.
