On this week's "Mondays with the Mayor, Mayor Laura Weinberg discussed the following topics:
- Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving.
- A thank you to all those who attended last week’s Heart of Golden meeting and a reminder that if you couldn't make the meeting, you can check the Guiding Golden page for a recording of the presentation and to check out concept designs for the new building.
- Ongoing pedestrian and cyclist safety projects, including the installation of raised crosswalks.
- A congratulations to the Mines Cross Country and Women’s Soccer Teams.
- Waste collection will be delayed for members of the City’s PAYT program, Thursday and Friday collections will be delayed one day.
- The upcoming Small Business Saturday event.

Happy Thanksgiving Golden!
The City of Golden wishes all our residents a joyful and peaceful Thanksgiving! We’re grateful for the amazing community we share and for all of you who make Golden such a special place to call home.
As a reminder, City administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29 for the holiday. The Golden Community Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 but will reopen on Friday with regular hours. Emergency services will remain fully operational throughout the holiday.
From our City team to you and your loved ones, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, connection, and delicious food!

Holiday Recycling and Waste Service Delayed One Day
Thursday, Nov. 28, is Thanksgiving Day, and there will be no service. If your usual trash day falls on Thursday, please place your bins out on Friday, Nov. 29.
Check the When Is Your Trash Day for specific pick-up days in your neighborhood.

Small Busines Saturday
Nov. 30 is Small Business Saturday! Shop local and support small businesses that make Golden vibrant. Swing by Visit Golden's Shop Small Welcome Station in front of the Golden Welcome Center from 10 a.m. to noon to grab a tote and coupons and kick off your local holiday shopping spree!

Your Child Could Light the Lights at the Annual Golden Candlelight Walk!
Golden Paws Animal Hospital is proud to sponsor the Official Light the Lights Contest, which kicked off on Nov. 1. This fun opportunity invites Golden kids ages 5-12 to enter a drawing for the chance to flip the switch and light up Golden during the iconic Candlelight Walk!
Here’s how to enter: Children aged 5-12 can drop one entry per person into a drawing box at one of two locations:
- Golden Paws Animal Hospital at 701 Pine Ridge Road
- Grooming at Golden Paws at 109 N. Rubey Drive, Unit C
Entries will be collected through Nov. 30; on Monday, Dec. 2, one lucky child's name will be drawn.

The Olde Golden Holidays Candlelight Walk
Friday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. in Parfet Park
Join us for this cherished holiday tradition on Friday, Dec. 6.
- Holiday Show: 5 p.m. at Parfet Park
- Candlelight Walk: 6:30 p.m. starting at 15th Street & Washington Avenue
Experience the magic of a candlelit stroll down historic Washington Avenue. Sing carols, soak in the festive atmosphere, and watch as 45,000 lights illuminate the creek to kick off the holiday season. Santa will lead the way—don’t miss it!
Please note the following road closures for the event:
- 4:00 p.m.: Washington Avenue from 10th to 11th Streets close.
- 5:00 p.m.: Washington Avenue from 11th to 19th Streets close
- 11th to 19th Streets re-open as the walk proceeds down the street.
- Approximately 8:15 p.m.: 10th to 11th Street will reopen.

Get Your Picture with Santa!
Wednesday, Dec. 4. 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Golden Community Center
Free cookies, coloring, crafts, and more!
Calling all good girls and boys! Join us on Wednesday, Dec. 4, for pictures with Santa and holiday fun.
What’s Happening:
- Free light refreshments
- Crafts and coloring activities for kids
- A chance to deliver your letters to Santa
Don’t forget to bring your letters! Elves from the North Pole, along with Golden Police Officers, will be there to collect them and make sure they reach Santa himself.
We can't wait to see you there!

Central Golden Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Projects Open House Dec. 9
The Planning Department, in collaboration with Public Works, is proposing several bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements along the Ford Street and Jackson Street corridors between 14th Street and 24th Street.
In accordance with the adopted 2023 Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan, the City is proposing the following projects:
- A protected bike lane on Ford Street between 14th & 24th
- A protected bike lane on Jackson Street between 14th & 24th
- Adding a raised four-way intersection at Jackson Street & 24th
- Intersection improvements at Ford Street & 14th
The second Open House will be held on Monday, December 9th from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Natural Grocers (2401 Ford Street). Come share your input on the updated project design which was modified based on input from the first Open House in June.
