This Saturday come out to the Golden Fire Station at 10th and Washington, meet your local firefighters, tour the fire trucks, eat some popcorn, win some prizes and learn all about fire safety. This event is especially great for families with kids. There will be educational games for the little ones, and plenty to keep them entertained and busy! The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free.
Also happening this weekend is the first of a series of 4 special Coffee with a Councilor meet-ups to help you get to know the City Council candidates who will be on the ballot this November in Wards 3 and 4. The first one focuses on Ward 4 candidates, and is happening at White Ash Mine park at 4 p.m.

Current Projects
Linking Lookout (US 6 & 19th St. Interchange)
There will be lane closures on eastbound US 6 for median planting for the remainder of the week. All closures will be picked up by noon on Friday in anticipation of the long weekend.
Traffic will be switched to the final configuration on Thursday the 7th, but there will remain a prohibition on left turns from the westbound off-ramp up hill on 19th Street. This restriction is scheduled to remain until September 22.
Work to remove the temporary detour asphalt on 19th street will begin after the traffic switch, and median work will begin.
Landscaping, irrigation and lighting work continues on the lid and in all ramp areas.
Working space is getting very tight, and work is happening through the project so please be careful as you cross the area, whether in a car, on a bike or walking.
There is a construction viewing area in the northwest corner that can be accessed from Parfet Estates Drive, and is an excellent location to view ongoing work. Please park legally.
Bonfils Blood Center will hold a blood drive in their Bonfils Bus in the Golden Library parking lot on Wednesday,
September 6 from 10 to 11:40 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Planning Commission Meeting
Planning Commission will meet September 6 at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers at 911 10th Street in Golden.
At the meeting, the following will be under consideration:
Planning Commissions will review a request for a Special Use Permit to construct a parking garage structure that exceeds the 35 foot height limite allowed in R-3 zoning.
Colorado School of Mines Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to review a request to vacate City right of way, where no street currently exists, adjacent to 14th Street and Elm Street on the CSM campus.
Site Plan Review Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to review a request for Site Plan approval to construct a building that contains warehouse, office and retail uses near the corner of Golden Gate Canyon Road and Catamount Drive.

Coffee with a Councilor & Candidates
As we approach elections in November, Councilor Casey Brown will be hosting special Ward-specific Coffee with a Councilor & Candidate (CWACAC) meetings, inviting City Council candidates to attend and meet and greet neighbors at the end of the meeting.
Each meeting will be held in a different location and target a specific Ward in District 2.
The first meeting will focus on Ward 4 and take place in White Ash Mine Park on
September 9 at 10 a.m.

Golden Giddyup
The
Golden Giddyup mountain bike festival is a community sponsored bike event and trail stewardship program to be held in Golden, Colorado on
September 10, 2017 on Jeffco Open Space parks.
Founded after the 2013 floods wrecked towns and trails from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs, the Giddyup is the product of all of the volunteer hours spent rebuilding our parks.
The Golden Giddyup includes three different courses, all on Jeffco trails.
View the race routes here! The race kicks off in waves from Lions Park at 7:30 a.m. and finishes throughout the afternoon.
But whether you're riding the Giddyup event or not, it will be a fun day of bluegrass, beers, and bikes at Lions Park on Sunday afternoon, with dozens of great bike brands displaying their wares, and fun for all ages.
This year, New Terrain Brewery and Declaration Brewery produced a Giddyup Session Ale to enjoy while taking in the tunes of local bluegrass band, Rapidgrass, playing on the MainStage, starting at 2 p.m.
Golden Urban Renewal Authority Meeting
The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) will meet September 11 at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers at 911 10th Street in Golden.

Presentation of Potential Redevelopment Project Concept for 17270 W. Colfax Avenue
Review Central Neighborhoods URA Plan and Central Neighborhoods Plan element of City Comprehensive Plan re Housing Policies

Mayor's Awards for Excellence now accepting nominations
The tradition continues, as Golden's Mayor Marjorie Sloan hosts a fun event to honor outstanding individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to Golden. This will be the 7th year for the Mayor's Community Celebration, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the Green Center on the Colorado School of Mines campus.
At the Now is your opportunity to nominate a person or group whom, through their extraordinary efforts, exhibit commitment and dedication to the City of Golden and/or Mines.
This year, nominations are accepted for two different awards. The
Individual or Business/Organization award highlights exceptional contributions to the Golden community at large. The
Gold Mine award highlights contributions made to the betterment of the Colorado School of Mines within the Golden Community.

Anyone that lives within the City limits is encouraged to sign up for the green waste pickup service through Alpine Waste & Recycling. Starting now, new and existing subscribers will be entered into a drawing each month to win fantastic prizes. September's giveaway is a $100 Garden in a Box gift certificate that can be used to purchase anything that the Center for Resource Conservation sells on the Garden In A Box online store, which includes Xeric and veggie Gardens In A Box and garden accessories such as drip kits and control clocks. The drawing will take place at the end of the month and the winner will be announced on October 2.

Monthly fees are $9.45. This rate includes a discount each month for Golden residents, provided by the Community Sustainability Advisory Board. You may cancel anytime. Upon signing up, you will receive a 96-gallon cart and a roll of biodegradable kitchen waste bags. Green Waste service is YEAR ROUND and bi-weekly (every other week).
