It is ideal if the body pivot is in sync with the swinging action of the club. It leads to a good transfer of energy into the ball and better balance throughout the swing. Please watch the video for a full demonstration of how to use your body effectively to enhance the the club movement through the ball.

Gary Woodland And Amy

Gary Woodland surprises Amy from Special Olympics Arizona 2019
Gary Woodland surprises Amy from Special Olympics Arizona 2019

One of the most endearing stories in golf this year is when Gary Woodland met Amy at the Phoenix Waist Management Open. Amy is a special Olympian that played the 16th hole with Gary and Matt Kucher. Gary gave Amy credit for helping him win the US Open this year. He kept telling himself that "I got this" throughout the last round. Watch the video if you would like to see why that phrase had a special meaning to Gary.

Student Of The Month

My student of the month for July is Chuck Merryman. Chuck is a fellow Masters Member that also came to Scotland with me last year.

I have been working with Chuck for a few years. He hit the ball with a big slice and had a tendency to shank his short irons when we first met. He was shooting in the mid to high 90s at the time.  He has improved tremendously with how much farther and straighter he strikes the ball. He also has improved his short game.

Recently, Chuck played in a Torrey Pines Men's Club event. He shot 82-81 and won his flight by 3 shots. He mentioned that he kept saying to himself to "swing it like Scott told me". I feel that probably gave him a positive image of what he to do on the course and kept him in a good frame of mind.

Congratulations on your fine win Chuck!!

Jeremy Klinkhamer is here to give the fitness tip of the month. This month's video shows you an exercise called the windshield wiper. This exercise will help you create more internal hip rotation in your swing. This is topical since I spoke to how the hips should work through impact in the video above.

I have been working with Jeremy since 2000. One of the great things about working with Jeremy is that he is on site so I can communicate with him easily about my students. I have sent many players to him to improve both their fitness and functionality. I have seen amazing results! The evidence is both in the way they feel and the improvement that has been shown in their golf games. You can reach Jeremy at jklinkhamer@fitgolf.com if you would like more information about what he offers.
Short Game School

My next short game school will be given on Sunday, July 28th from 9:00am to 12 noon. Chipping, pitching, pitching from the rough, sand shots and putting will be covered in this school. Each student will have their putting stroke computer analyzed in the putting studio. All students will also receive a short game school booklet that contains text and video for each shot covered. The maximum student to teacher ratio is 5:1 and the cost is $160.

Please contact me at  smahlberg@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in attending.
