SIGA Dakota Dunes Open - Q&A with Martin Ring

What was your overall thought of the Mackenzie Tour PGA TOUR Canada Event in Saskatoon?

It was a very impressive field and an extremely well run operation for the tournament committee. They definitely try to keep it as close to what one would expect at a PGA Tour Event, from shuttles to yardage books etc.

As a more mature player, how was it to play against the 20-25 year old age bracket?

That was a very kind way of saying I'm old...LOL. As a career amateur playing with the young gentleman that are trying to make a living playing this game it was very humbling. We had a few laughs during our rounds when I would be 75 - 100 yards back of their tee shots and somehow I would still find a way to match a few of their scores.

What was your best memory or highlight of the Dakota Dunes Open?

Obviously playing with the 2 young men that I was drawn with for the first 2 days and watch them shoot 66 and 67 respectively in round one and then the 2nd round Just Shin followed up the 67 with a 68. Just incredible to watch them manage their shots into the different sections of the greens.

When the announcer called your name at the 1st tee of the event, what was your first thought?

"Enjoy the day and the opportunity and dang it hit the first fairway!!!" Hole #10 was a 240 yard carry over the what looks like a desert, you better hit it solid.

For as much success as I've had as an amateur golfer it was truly a terrific experience to play at yet another level and measure myself. People always ask why I'm not a professional golfer, the truth is it is another level and totally different ball game to try and make a living at this game.

An extra big thank you to my wife Andrea who caddied / carried my golf bag around for 3 rounds

Thanks again as well to the Golf Saskatchewan for giving me the opportunity to represent our province in this very special event.
