Dear Gompers families,

I hope you are all having a wonderful beginning to the fall.

We are busy in our sixth week of learning and I am impressed with all the learning that is taking place.  We are excited for our continued learning that will take place.

Thank you to GEPTO for all of the amazing work you have done to support our school community.  Culver's night was wonderful and we are all excited about the Fall Festival/Day of the Dead Celebration on October 25.  Also, a heartfelt thank-you for your donation to our families who needed extra support the last few weeks.  Gompers supports all of its families!

We appreciate your support and as always please reach out if you have any questions.

Parents Please Read
Safe Arrival Phone Number: 204-4522
Please call this number by 8:30am when your child will be absent or tardy.

Parents - please remember: The best way to ensure that your child is correctly marked for an absence is to call the Safe Arrival phone number directly. Other messages and notes may not be relayed to the correct person for record keeping. Thank you!

Use our online form to report your child absent from school. You are welcome to continue using our Safe Arrival / Attendance Line phone number if you'd prefer. The online form is simply an additional option for attendance reporting. LEARN MORE

You will receive picture order forms and information in your child's backpack.  Extra forms are available in the office.  Please remember, if you pay for your child's pictures with cash, you must have the exact amount due as the photographer is not able to make change.  You can also pay online and order the pictures.

All visitors to Gompers Elementary School must enter through the main door by the office.  Doors on the playground and exterior of the school will be used for students and staff only to ensure we are keeping everyone safe.

Visitors must sign the log in the office and have a visible visitor sticker on at all times.  If family members are planning on visiting for more than a moment, they should have a previously scheduled appointment with the teacher.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Smith.

If you have a costume that your child has outgrown or no longer uses, please consider donating it to Gompers! We will collect costumes and distribute them to families in need prior to the Fall Festival on Thursday, October 25th. Costume donations can be dropped off in the Gompers office until Tuesday, October 23th. Thank you for your help!

Safety Notes
Thank you students, faculty and families! Students crossing the streets to
and from school  do a great job at remembering to stop at the red line on the sidewa lk. They wait for the Crossing Guard to stop traffic, give the "all clear" and then cross the street.  Thank you also to the parents and staff who remember to do this. You are being great role models of s afety for your child or children.
Drivers are reminded that state law requires all vehicles to come a complete stop at least 10 feet from the crosswalk when a Crossing Guard is entering or is in the crosswalk. The vehicle should remain completely stopped until all pedestrians, including the Crossing Guard,
are safely back on the curb.  Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe!

Day of the Dead and Fall Festival
This event is scheduled for Thursday, October 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This free family event will include games, Day of the Dead projects, a dance, airbrush tattoos, a teacher costume contest, and trunk-or-treat. There will not be a potluck, but baked goods, bottled water, and pizza slices will be available for purchase. You can also fulfill classroom requests by purchasing items at the Buy It Now! table.
We need volunteers to make this event successful! If you're able make bake sale items, decorate, or help out during the event, please sign up at We are hoping that former Gompers students who are now at Black Hawk Middle School will be willing to help out with the games!

Fall Donation Drive
One of GEPTO's largest fundraisers is the Fall Donation Drive. Unlike other fundraisers that provide only a portion of total sales, 100% of the Fall Donation Drive proceeds stay in Gompers and help fund our activities and initiatives. The Fall Donation Drive runs through October (although we will accept donations anytime during the school year). A flyer is attached to this newsletter and has been sent home through backpack mail. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

T-Shirt Contest
We are launching our 2018 student t-shirt contest! Students will have the opportunity to submit a drawing, and Gompers teachers will review all submissions. The winning design will be printed on t-shirts for all students and staff! Look for a flyer with t-shirt contest rules in backpack mail.
Classroom Requests
A Lego-themed bulletin board opposite the Gompers office includes "bricks" with classroom requests written on them. If you would like to fulfill a request, choose a brick from the bulletin board, purchase the item, and bring it to the teacher or Gompers office. Unfulfilled requests will be available for purchase at the Buy It Now! table at the Fall Festival.
