Dear Gompers families,

We are excited about welcoming your students back to the new school year and off to a strong start as we build relationships and teach routines and expectations.

This year, MMSD launched its new Strategic Framework and we are excited to position ourselves with this bold and exciting work at Gompers Elementary School.  As an elementary school, we are both humbled and excited to get to serve your children for up to seven years and we take this responsibility seriously to ensure that all students are college, career and community ready.  We want all of our scholars to be proud of their uniqueness and view themselves as learners while valuing the importance of supporting one another.

This fall, we have some exciting events coming up including the Mud Run which supports our physical education department, Scoopie Night at Culver's and our Fall Festival hosted by GEPTO in October.  We look forward to seeing you at these events.

Again, thank you all for supporting the beginning of the 2018-2019 School Year.  We appreciate your collaboration and you sharing your children with us each day.

Kindly,

Jackie Smith
Principal

Jordan Roupp

Hello! My name is Jordan Roupp and I am the new elementary special education teacher at Gompers Elementary School! This is my 6th year teaching and I am so excited to be at Gompers! I previously taught in the Milwaukee Public Sc hool District. I moved to Madison this summer with my dog, Nelson. We are loving everything Madison has to offer! I am looking forward to an amazing school year and can't wait to meet you all!

Meghan Hickey

"Greetings Gompers! My name is Meghan Hickey and I am the newest addition to the Second Grade team! I graduated from UW-Madison last
year with degrees in general education and special education. I could not be more excited to begin my teaching journey with such
a wonderful community here at Gompers! In my time away from school I love being outdoors with friends, reading, and cheering for the Badgers & Packers. Thank you for being so welcoming, I am looking forward to an incredible first year!"
MESSAGE FROM OUR CROSSING GUARDS

Safety Notes
Thank you students, faculty and families! Students crossing the streets to
and from school  do a great job at remembering to stop at the red line on the sidewa lk. They wait for the Crossing Guard to stop traffic, give the "all clear" and then cross the street.  Thank you also to the parents and staff who remember to do this. You are being great role models of s afety for your child or children.

Drivers are reminded that state law requires all vehicles to come a complete stop at least 10 feet from the crosswalk when a Crossing Guard is entering or is in the crosswalk. The vehicle should remain completely stopped until all pedestrians, including the Crossing Guard,
are safely back on the curb.  Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe!
