* Here's are three basic but important ways you can help the church in the year ahead.
No experience necessary!
1) bring flowers on Sunday morning
2) greet people at the door on Sundays before church
3) bring treats for Coffee Hour (we tae care of coffee, set up, etc.) Do just one or do all three! Your call! You can sign up to help out on the back table at church or contact Pam .
* The Community Church is proud to be a sponsor of Gorton's 3rd Annual MountainFilm series , to be held January 25, 26, & 27. A wide variety of films will be shown for all ages, and they are so inspiring! Click MountainFilm for more information.
* Two schedule changes . Both the all-church Bocce (sign up will begin soon for the March 2 event) and Tom's two-part book study on THEM have been re-scheduled. Keep your eyes on the weekly church newsletter for more information.
* Did you remember that the Community Church offers 3 free Meditation experiences each week? And, that the weekday sessions are held at the church office each Wednesday at 6:30 am and 9:00 am? Not to mention the session in Reid Hall at 9:00 am each Sunday before church?
On February 2 join us for "LAUGH" with Chelsea Greenbaum (pictured), Laughter Wellness Coach. Chelsea is coming to Lake Forest (Gorton Community Center) to put on a Laughter Workshop for US (The Community Church). Make plans to come. Bring a friend.

5 Things to expect:
1. A lot of fun
2. Guaranteed natural laughter (the kind that makes your face and stomach hurt)
3. No jokes to provoke laughs
4. Like nothing you've ever experienced (unless you've previously been to a Greenbaum workshop)
5. At the end of a LAUGH workshop it feels as if you've been to a spa

10 Things to know:
1. Zach Hancock, Ned Jessen, and Lydia Holzman-Hancock (the person you should really trust) have scouted Greenbaum's laughter workshop and found it intriguing enough to bring her up (she's from Evanston)
2. Ever since the experience, Zach and Ned, who laughed so hard it hurt, refer to Chelsea as "Chuckles" (in private conversations)
3. You will probably be uncomfortable at some point in the session, unless your name is Tom Dickelman, probably at the front-end of the workshop—don't worry, you'll loosen up
4. LAUGH will be at its best if the room has plenty of people
5. Laughing more in 2019 is a great New Year's resolution
6. You don't have to bring or prepare anything, just come, Greenbaum does all the heavy-lifting
7. Greenbaum puts everyone at ease and smooths out anything that at first feels unusual or uncomfortable
8. Ned Jessen will be there
9. When the workshop is over you will be  so glad  you came
10. LAUGH with Chelsea happens 4:30 PM February 2nd at Gorton Community Center in the Grotto - and it's FREE - by Zach Hancock

Mark Your Calendars

Ally Ahern will be performing at Be Market in Lake Bluff on January 11th, at 7 pm and I’ll be lucky enough to back her up on the keyboard. We’re hoping to perform some of the new tunes she’s been writing while attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston along with a few tasty jazz standards.

Too Hot To Handle!! There is no better way to celebrate MLK weekend than to attend this event at the auditorium theatre in Chicago. I’ve been lucky enough to go a few times and it is truly one of the best concerts you’ll ever see. Our own Kim Minichiello sings in the chorus and has a group of tickets for the matinee performance on Sunday January 20th. Let her know if you're interested sings4u@comcast.net . For more information here is a link to the website .

The Love with the one and only Suede will be performing live at Norton’s in Highwood on February 2nd starting at 9 pm.

Happy New Year and see you soon!
