For Presbyterians, pilgrimage has not been a common spiritual practice. Yet at its core, it aligns closely with our Reformed theology: it calls us to be attentive to God's presence in the world, to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, and to embody faith through action. A pilgrimage, especially one like the Nine Church Walk, invites us to slow down, to listen, and to engage our whole selves—body, mind, and spirit—in discipleship.
Each church visited becomes a station for prayer, Scripture, and silence. Some pilgrims choose to meditate on the Stations of the Cross. Others bring prayers for peace, healing, or justice. In this pilgrimage, architecture, liturgy, iconography and even the uneven sidewalks become part of the sacred experience. It is a reminder that God meets us not only in still sanctuaries, but in the vibrant pulse of the world around us.

This Good Friday walk is not about arriving—it is about beholding. It's about taking time between churches to notice the suffering in our own neighborhoods, to walk in solidarity with each other on Christ’s journey of love through pain, and to recognize the Resurrection hope in the warmth of strangers sharing the road.
Members of the SCAPC community are invited to join together for such a walk, starting at 8 a.m. at St. Theresa of Avila, 1404 Erato St., and arriving at SCAPC for noon Good Friday Worship. We will enjoy a short coffee break along the way with coffee and doughnuts. If you are interested in being part of this experience, email miriam@scapc.org. A complete schedule with suggested prayers and brief architectural notes will be emailed to you. on Thursday morning. We also will have a text message group set up to help keep us together. The total distance covered is a bit less than six miles. Last year, one car of folks met us at each stop, so be creative if walking the entire six miles sounds daunting.
Come and walk. Let the journey lead you not just through the city, but into the mystery of God’s love.

Join an Usher Team!
Serving as an usher on Sunday mornings is one of the most important (and fun!) ways to volunteer for the church. The role can involve anything from passing the offering plates, recording attendance, assisting congregants with special needs, and most importantly, greeting everyone as they gather for worship. Each usher team serves two months of the year, six months apart (for example, January and July). To join a team, contact Geoff Snodgrass at gpsnodgrass@gmail.com.
