FROM THE DESK OF
Executive Director, Dan Mauer
October, 2023
Happy October, everyone — and welcome to the latest edition of our monthly email newsletter, Mission Matters! We've got a lot on the agenda this month, but there are several items I want to mention right off the bat:
Mission to Gulu, Uganda
| Our mission to Gulu, Uganda, was a great success! | We left September 1st and — 36 hours of flights and delays later — you’d think our journey to Gulu would have been finished. Not quite! After spending a brief night in Kampala, we got up early and loaded ourselves and luggage into vans for a seven hour ride to Gulu. (Although I’ve been told the roads are much better than in the past, I can’t say the potholes and relentless speed bumps along the way make for a pleasant ride.) | Once we reached Gulu, we hit the ground running. We dropped our bags and headed straight over to St Mary's Lacor Hospital. The doctors started screening patients and everyone else scattered to unload all the supplies that would be used that week. | By the time we left, our volunteers had performed 63 surgeries! | In addition to operating rooms going full-steam, our art teams were out spreading good will through “bubble therapy” and our entertaining CPR team trained over 300 locals on proper CPR and AED use. | As summer winds down and we make our way into the fall and winter months, it will be a good time to take inventory and restock necessary supplies for next year's missions. We're always in need of new supplies. Click here to see a list of other needed items. Before donating supplies, contact Sulamita Ortiz, Missions Assistant, to make arrangements, or call 913-338-0343. | |
Thanks to our teams for all their great work!
And now for some…
