BRIDGEWATER FIRE AND EMS NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Volunteers are needed to help our amazing Fire and EMS crews as they keep Bridgewater safe, click here to sign up today!

I’m pleased to announce that the list of 51 roads we’ll be working in 2022 is now up on OurBWRoads.com in the “Future Projects” section!

If your street is not listed, don’t worry, we’re performing another Universal Road Assessment this year to recalibrate and make sure our road selection is always based on the best empirical data possible.

Bridgewater has been through a lot since our last assessment in 2020, and while many great strides have been made in the intervening time, there have also been struggles – the impact of Hurricane Ida to name a major one.

As we start year 2 of our 5 year Road Plan, having fresh data will ensure that the worst roads get addressed as quickly as possible, and will enable us to secure Bridgewater’s infrastructure is top of the line for the long term.

Protect yourself from Internet Fraud!

Take these actions before browsing or shopping for products and services online:

Do:

  • Learn how to spot internet fraud by knowing the warning signs of common fraud schemes. These schemes include phishing or spoofing, data breaches, and malware.

  • Know your buyer or seller. If you don't know who you're buying from or selling to online, do some research.

  • Update your anti-virus software and anti-spyware programs. Most types of anti-virus software can be set up to make automatic updates. Spyware protection is any program that protects your personal information online from malware. If your operating system does not offer free spyware protection, you can download it from the internet. Or you can purchase it at your local computer store. But be aware of ads on the internet offering downloadable spyware protection which could result in the theft of your information. You should only install programs from a trusted source.

Don’t:

  • Don’t give out your personal information to anyone you don’t trust. Never provide it in response to an email, a pop-up, or a website you've linked to from an email or web page.

  • Don’t keep your computer running all the time. Doing so will make it more prone to spyware and other attacks from hackers and identity thieves.

If you believe you're a victim of internet fraud or cybercrime, report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Or, you can use the FBI’s online tips form.

Your complaint will be forwarded to federal, state, local, or international law enforcement. You will also need to contact your credit card company. Notify them if you are disputing unauthorized charges or if you suspect your credit card number has been compromised.

If you have experienced a financial hardship and an increase in housing related expenses associated with the coronavirus pandemic that created a risk of mortgage delinquency, mortgage default, foreclosure or property tax lien,
the Homeowner Assistance Fund may be able to help.

MUNICIPAL SERVICES

CODE ENFORCEMENT

With the increase of recent real estate transactions, the Code Enforcement Department has seen an influx of property owners coming in to schedule inspections for open permits that were never closed out. In some cases, delaying the closing of the property because of open permits.

It is always good practice to have permits inspected in a timely manner. Property owners can sign up and log onto the SDL portal https://www.sdlportal.com to confirm that there are no open permits on their property. Any open permits can be scheduled by calling 908 725-6300 ext. 5563.

ZONING UPDATE

Zoning is the establishment of standards across our neighborhoods in an orderly pattern to protect our community's health, safety, and welfare. It determines how our town's land is used and what operations or activities may be permitted when and where.

The Zoning Officer reviews permit requests to ensure all projects and proposals conform to our ordinance standards. In addition, Zoning also investigates property maintenance issues.

Before starting any home project or development, you should check with Zoning to determine if the work requires a permit. Depending on the project, you may also require construction, plumbing, and electrical permits, but a Zoning permit is your first step.

Permits are required for the following:

  • New house construction, additions
  • Detached garages
  • Decks, porches, or patios
  • Sheds, fences, retaining walls
  • Pools (above and in-ground), hot tubs, spas
  • Standby generators
  • Signs

If you have questions regarding the permit process or other zoning matters, please get in touch with Roger Dornbierer at 908-725-6300 x5541.

PUBLIC WORKS

Bridgewater Township has several thousand catch basins in our roadways to collect storm water, Public Works is requesting that you “adopt” the catch basin in front of your home and make sure the top of the grate is kept free from leaves and sticks. This will keeping the water draining freely into the basin. If you should have a catch basin filled with debris, below the grate, give us a call and we’ll create a work order to clean it out.

LEAF BAG PICK UP HAS STARTED

Bridgewater Public Works has started picking up fall leaf bags. Leaves should be placed in brown, bio-degradable leaf bags. Leaves in plastic bags will not be picked up.

Public Works will be picking up leaf bags from now until December 31, 2022. We pick up leaf bags daily and as we finish the entire Township, we start again at the beginning and repeat the process. Initially, we strive to pick up once a week, but as more leaves fall and more bags are put out or if a weather event should occur, it may extend our pickup times to once every week and a half.

Please do not block the street with the bags, make sure they are put on your property on your side of the curb line. If it should snow, pull the leaf bags in approximately 10 feet so that they are not caught up in the snow plows.

Leaf bags are still available for pickup at Public Works 411 Chimney Rock Rd.

Building A Bound Brook, NJ 08805 Mon. – Fri., 8 am – 3pm.

For November, residents are now allowed to pick up an additional 20 leaf bags each week at Public Works until our supply runs out.

FIRE SAFETY

Play it safe in the kitchen.

Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home injuries, so it's important to know what you can do to help keep your friends and family safe while entertaining during the winter season. The primary cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended stovetops and ovens. If you are simmering, baking or roasting food, check it regularly, remain in the kitchen and use a timer for reminders. When cooking for longer periods of time, don’t forget to use the exhaust fan or vent above your stove to help prevent carbon monoxide (CO) from collecting inside your home.

Have a fire extinguisher on hand.

Having fire extinguishers – and knowing how to use them – is an important part of maintaining a safe home for you and your family. When seconds count, having a fire extinguisher nearby is crucial for rapid response. Fire extinguishers should be stored where they are easily reachable and in key rooms where there is a higher risk for fires such as the kitchen and garage. For general protection, it’s best to select a multi-rated fire extinguisher
