Daily Emails will Become Weekly Emails Starting Next Week
The good news is we will still continue to send a Good Morning PGCC email; however, we will reduce the frequency to once a week, either on Wednesday or Thursday. After video editing is complete, we will also send an email out (probably on Monday evening) with a link to our Sunday Service video.
A Devotional Thought by Don Anderson

Renewing the Mind, part 4
In the last three devotionals dealing with Renewing the Mind, we have established that to grow spiritually, we must renew our minds with God’s Word. Paul commands us to “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind , that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:2). Paul also says “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom" (Colossians 3:16). How do we go about accomplishing this in our own lives? Through Scripture memorization and meditation!
Meditating on Scripture will cause Scripture to “dwell in us,” that is to live in us and become a source of wisdom in our minds, our will, and our emotions. Through meditation, the Holy Spirit will teach us the ways of God through His Word. Meditation is the key to renewing our minds.
So how do we go about learning this spiritual discipline? It begins by memorizing a verse. Select a Bible verse that God lays on your heart. Start simple with a verse that is manageable. Say Colossians 3:16a. I have been meditating on Scripture for years and I like to begin by printing out the verse on a small piece of paper. I can then put the paper in my pocket and have it with me during the day. You can also use your phone’s Bible app by highlighting the passage you want to memorize.
Now that I have the verse printed or highlighted, I can go about memorizing it. Here are some tips for memorizing:
  1. Ask God to help you memorize His Word.
  2. Read through the verse, saying it aloud or in a whisper.
  3. As you read it, say the reference first, then the verse, then the reference again. For example “Colossians 3:16a. ‘Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,’ Colossians 3:16a.” Saying the reference helps you to learn where the verse is located in Scripture for further reference.
  4. Learn the verse in small bites or phrases. For example, begin with: “Let the word of Christ.” Say that until you’ve got it. Then add: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Say that until you’ve got it. Then add: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.” Say that until you’ve got it. Finally, add in the references and say it until you’ve got it.
  5. Work on memorizing the verse last thing before going to bed. Then, first thing after waking up, review the verse again.
  6. Say the verse aloud during the day to reinforce what you have learned. Review it while making breakfast, while walking, while making lunch, while driving, while waiting for the doctor, while making dinner, while getting ready for bed and just before going to sleep. There are three keys to memorization: review, review, and review!
  7. For words or parts of the verse that you keep forgetting, emphasize them as you say them. For example: Let the word of Christ DWELL in you richly in all WISDOM.
I have found that after years of memorizing Scripture, the more I do it the easier it gets. I have seen studies that say when you memorize Scripture your brain increases in size. As I get older, I need all the help I can get to keep my brain active and growing. What a way to improve your brain and learn God’s Word at the same time! It is a win-win.
Next time we will put memorization and meditation together to better understand how to renew our minds by engraving God’s Word into our memories.
