In one of my recent phone conversations, a lady expressed to me that she did not think we should pray for the President because of separation of church and state. I explained to her that separation of church and state does NOT mean we do not pray for those in authority. Separation of church and state means that we cannot have a state church or let the state or federal government control the church. In fact, the Bible specifically commands us to pray for those in authority.

"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:1-4).

Please pray right now for all those who are trying to handle this most disturbing global event. We have never experienced a pandemic like this before. This virus does not have a political agenda or a moral compass. Those who have the power to get medical supplies and food to where they are needed, and who are responsible for deciding when and how to open things up again, need our prayers.

Choose to promote favor not fear. Promote calmness not criticism. Promote goodwill not worry. Promote peace not panic.

“Blessed be the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.“ (Matthew 5:9). Amen.
This Sunday, May 3

Have a piece of bread or a cracker, along with a small glass of juice, wine or even water, ready when you watch our Worship Service this Sunday. Join the body of Christ in taking communion together.

1. Neighborhood Outreach Called "NEED PRAYER?"
We are going to launch a way for people in the community to contact us and ask for prayer. We need people willing to pray   when a prayer request is received .

PLEASE CONTACT US IF INTERESTED   and we will give you the details. You can decide if this is a way you would like to serve God and minister to others. We can't launch this until we have enough volunteers willing to pray.
2. Send a Thank You Note to Our Local Grocery Store Workers!
The people who are making sure we have food available are also taking risks to do so. They interact with more people in an hour than most of us have interacted with in a month dramatically increasing their risk of catching COVID-19. Let's show them God's love by expressing our gratitude.

There are 103 employees at the Raley's on Pleasant Grove and Woodcreek Oaks. We have contacted the store and shared with them our idea and they gave us every employee's first name. Would you be willing to write a thank you note to a few of them? If enough of us do so, all 103 will be showered with appreciation, which they probably seldom receive, especially in writing.

Here's how:
  1. Contact the office at
  2. Let us know how many cards you want to write (you provide the card or stationary)
  3. We will email you a list of names to write to and give you instructions on how to send the cards or notes.

It will cost you a little time. It may cost you a little money. But what price can you put on sharing the light of Christ and brightening someone's day?

Our hope is that all of you will participate!

3. Donate to the Food Bank
The need there is unprecedented right now. We will collect food items all week long. Just drop off your nonperishable items in the grey container next to the doors on the west side of the church where the drive-thru portico is. Someone will pick up your donation each evening. Get your neighbors involved! Ask them to make donations as well and then offer to pick their donations up and bring them to the church.

4. Send a Thank You to our Fire Fighters and Police Officers

Prayer Shawl knitted by Karen Beaver

Our Prayer Shawl Team has ministered for years to those who are sick or grieving in our congregation by giving them a beautiful, hand made shawl that they can wrap around them to be reminded of God's comfort as they pray. Thank you to everyone who contributes their talent to this special ministry!

Do you have original art that you created and would like to share? It can be paintings, drawings, crafts, sewing, photography, sock puppets...If so, send a picture of the piece to us at .

We want to let everyone know we will be moving to Sparks, NV by June 6th. It is hard to leave the many friends we have at PGCC and the “Stay at Home” order makes it unlikely that we will see each other at church before then.

Our “long-range plan” has always been to move closer to our daughter. We said we would do it “when the time was right.” We have recognized that the time is now right. On April 18 th our daughter called to say the house next door to them had come on the market. We made an offer and the next day it was ours. Our house here will be listed for sale today.

Our new address will be 4171 Phenomenon Ct., Sparks, NV 89436. Our cell phone numbers will remain the same. We will let the church know our new email address and land line number after we get settled.

Please know that we have loved all of you and you have been a very special part of our life for the last 18 years. The memories we shared will live with us forever.

God Bless you and yours, Tom and Twila

From the staff: Tom and Twila, you are dear to us. We are both sad and glad at the same time. May God bless you as richly as God has blessed us through you.
Do you need help? Someone to talk to? Running out of food or supplies? Please reach out and contact us. We are trying to make sure everyone in our congregation gets a call, just to check in, from someone else in our congregation, but it's a long list and sometimes we have the wrong information. You don't need to wait for a call, you can contact us. We are here for you.

If you are at high-risk and/or not able to do your own grocery shopping, please request assistance through the PGCC Shopping Assistance Program. If you need assistance, please call the church office at 916-771-4447 and someone will contact you to make arrangements.
