TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
MAKING FRIENDS THE FACEBOOK WAY

I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook just like I do on Facebook.

Every day I walk down the street and tell passersby's what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom.

I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.

I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like them.

And it works just like Facebook! I already have four people following me:
two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist! HA!
A DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT by Don Andrews

About four weeks ago I contacted a younger friend of mine who I hadn’t seen for over 10 years. We had been in Bible studies together at Valley Bible Church in Hercules, CA. Our recent meeting was about 6 weeks ago, and he said, ”all I do is work and sleep.” This was alarming because he had been a vibrant Christian man.

He was very transparent and quickly made it obvious that he had taken control of his life and sought to be his own master. When I suggested meeting together on a weekly basis, he readily agreed. My goal was to assist him in seeing how his isolation from God was robbing him of God’s joy. He had become disappointed that God was not meeting his immediate needs.

I referred to Romans 8:28, “All things work together for “the good” and Romans 12:2, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His GOOD, pleasing and perfect will.”

I explained that “the GOOD” in Rom.8:28 and “GOOD” in Rom. 12:2 were referring to a specific spiritual good and not a temporal satisfaction of his daily wants and desires. Further, I shared that our Heavenly Father wants us to have a renewed mind, a mind that focuses on what God allows us to experience so we can enjoy the process of becoming more like Jesus. Our heavenly Father cares about every aspect of our lives, but his good, pleasing and perfect will is that we have abundant joy in the transformation of our minds into the likeness of our Savior.

When he realized the difference between “THE GOOD” as a specific good and “GOOD” as a general term, his attitude immediately changed. Now, an attitude of “thanks” rather than an attitude of “why” is becoming his new pattern of thinking. The Holy Spirit is again actively working in his life and the joy is beginning to show once again.
