PRIDEFEST IS COMING MAY 16, 2026


Pridefest is going to be here in an instant. Please put May 16th on your calendar. We will again have two booths, one for selfies and one for blessings. We will also be marching in the parade with the other UNITED faith communities. We need volunteers to help staff the booths (2-hour shift), set up the booths and tear them down at the end of the day. We also would like a count for how many are marching. Grace Food Pantry is hosting a Dine and Donate Tuesday, May 5, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Culver’s located at 4400 Wabash Avenue. No paperwork is needed. Simply dine in or drive through to enjoy a tasty Culver’s meal and support the Food Pantry. We are grateful to Culver’s, and to you, for taking action to reduce food insecurity in our community!

First Presbyterian Church is grateful to have received a Healing Illinois grant to offer antiracism training to faith communities across our diverse traditions. SIAN is partnering with us to offer this excellent training. Each training requires a six hour commitment. We will provide nourishment for hearts, minds, and bodies. More details will be sent to registrants.

Devotional for Sancti Spiritus by Julie Pfeifer


"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." ~Lamentations 3:22-23


I took part in a small group study on the book of Lamentations a few years ago. I had never thought about the value of lamenting — literally crying out to God and expressing our deepest emotions in reaction to painful and difficult times. Turns out that complaining to God is actually encouraged! Even better, Lamentations promises us that because of God’s deep love for us, the trials of this world will not destroy us. We can trust in God’s endless compassion, which not only recognizes our suffering but also desires to relieve it, because it is not dependent on our faithfulness, but God’s.


Donations for Cuba


Session has approved collection of funds to support the church in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba. The situation in Cuba continues to spiral downward. Fuel is being restricted to hospitals and ambulances. As of this week, we are able to send groceries to Sancti Spiritus, again.

Cuban Art Exhibition Upstairs


A team of our church members had planned to visit our Cuban cousins in Sancti Spiritus this month. Unfortunately, due to the US embargo, we had to postpone our visit to share 22 years of our partnership with La Iglesia Presbiteriana-Reformada. We have created an exhibition of artwork from Cuban artists and photographs of Cuba by Chris Young. Please come experience the gallery on the second floor next to the new chapel!

Please remember people often need water. Many people are being served through our micropantry. Thanks to everyone whose donations keep this vital ministry going. Any and all are welcome to donate food items. Simply place them in the cabinet.

Nursery


The nursery is available for parents to use with their little ones. You are free to use the nursery on Sunday mornings and during church events. Child care is not provided at this time so you will need to stay with your child while there.

Hospital Notices


Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.


Coffee Fellowship

In order to ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund, please take a moment to include the following information when making a donation:

  1. Writing a check – Add the fund name in the memo section (Capital Campaign, Peacemaking, Samaritan Ministry, etc.)
  2. Online portal – Select “Other Donations” when entering the amount then enter the name of the fund in the Notes section
  3. Text giving – Text “$10 CC” to 217-284-2546, this example is a $10 donation for the Capitol Campaign fund. Other commonly used text codes are: Pledge, SM (Samaritan Ministries), Donate (Non-pledge), Peace, Joy, OGHS, Pentecost and BB (Brown Bag)
