In Loving Memory of Bruce Fenimore

We give thanks for the life, faith and friendship of long time church member Bruce Fenimore who passed away on July 28th. We hold his wife Chris and their family and friends in our prayers of compassion and loving kindness.

Alley Parking Temporarily Unavailable

The alley parking spaces between our building and courthouse will not be available on August 1 and 2. On Sunday, August 2, you can still use the west parking lot, the Grace Lutheran lot, or street parking.

Alley Maintenance Scheduled August 6-7

The city will be working on the alley between our building and the courthouse on August 6 and 7, and will be closed to traffic. Access to the west parking lot will still be available from Capitol Avenue.

Faith and Fellowship Meets August 7

Join us Friday, August 7 for fun, fellowship and good conversation. We will meet in the Cook-Diller Lounge at 10:00. All are welcome to join us!

Volunteers Needed to Host Presbytery of

Great Rivers

On August 18th we will be hosting the Presbytery Assembly meeting in the commons. We are in need of volunteers to help with light refreshments and coffee in the morning and lunch in the afternoon. If you are available please contact Michelle@LincolnsChurch.org.

Thanks for Hosting National Guests

Of all the construction projects funded across the country in the last couple of years, our lender, the Presbyterian Investment & Loan Program chose to come to Springfield for their annual board retreat. It was a delight to host the PILP board for their annual retreat and sharing our renovated spaces, breaking bread, and worshiping with them. The members and staff spent two days at First Pres and visited the IL Presbyterian Home.

Board President, Rev. Anne Apple, said she was "encouraged to see the thriving and unique ministries supported by PILP." Her slide show can be seen here.

Environmental Watch Party

You're invited to a watch party! The Earth Care team is hosting a gathering on September 29th at 5:30 pm CT in the Commons to stream Bill McKibben's keynote from Faith in Place's 2026 Environment & Spirituality Summit, then discuss it together in person. The Summit's theme, Grounded Resistance, explores how we engage the world from a place of deep grounding, collective support, and sustained resistance. Bill McKibben is an author, educator, and environmentalist who helped found 350.org, the first global grassroots climate campaign, and recently founded Third Act, an organizing movement for people over 60. The watch party is free and all are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Learn more about the Summit and register to join at aes-summit.org. as a community member.

We are now ready to start sharing the beautiful FREE book library in the Reception Hall next to the couch. If you have any gently used books that have been inspiring to you and you would like to share them leave them library.

Micropantry Serves Our Neighbors

Thanks to everyone whose donations keep this vital ministry going. Any and all are welcome to donate food items. Simply place them in the cabinet. Please note that our partners at Grace Food Pantry bring a number of items to our micropantry every Thursday. 

Many people are being served through our micropantry and during the summer months they often need water. Please avoid placing glass containers in the cabinet.

Nursery is Available

The nursery is available for parents to use with their little ones. You are free to use the nursery on Sunday mornings and during church events. Child care is not provided at this time so you will need to stay with your child while there.

Hospital Notices

Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.

Shelter Meal Volunteers

Thank you to everyone that shares in the Joy of Generosity at First Presbyterian! There are several ways to support our ministries and many ministries to support. In order to ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund, please take a moment to include the following information when making a donation:

1. Writing a check – Add the fund name in the memo section (Capital Campaign, Peacemaking, Samaritan Ministry, etc.)
2. Online portal – Select “Other Donations” when entering the amount then enter the name of the fund in the Notes section
3. Text giving – Text “$10 CC” to 217-284-2546, this example is a $10 donation for the Capitol Campaign fund. Other commonly used text codes are: Pledge, SM (Samaritan Ministries), Donate (Non-pledge), Peace, Joy, OGHS, Pentecost and BB (Brown Bag)
