“Hope for Us” explores our human and spiritual connections encouraging us toward compassion and empathy. The concert includes explorations of our own human failings, moves toward an understanding of each other’s circumstances, and finally a call to action to love your neighbor as yourself.
Some familiar faces of First Presbyterian that are singing in this concert are Becky Kemp, Diane Dietz, Abby Garrett, Adam Miller, and Justin Johnson.

In Loving Memory of
the Reverend Gordon McLean
| |
During the Rev. Gordon McLean’s leadership as the 13th pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Springfield, Illinois, Gordon oversaw a major renovation of our historic sanctuary and construction of the John Brombaugh Opus 35 tracker organ designed and crafted explicitly for FPC. This fabulous instrument and our sanctuary have attracted international attention since its installation. Gordon’s stepping out in faith to form the St. Andrews Corporation has secured mission funding for FPC’s future. His personal commitment to the Health First group of medical volunteers has since blossomed into the Capitol Community Health Clinic. A Social Services Desk, a Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, the Computer Bank and a recommitment to being a “downtown church” all brought honor to God and attention to the ministries of the church with the big red doors; the Lincoln Church. Gordon once said his job was “social worker” based upon his work and relationships in the larger community.
We hold the Rev. Gordon's wife, Betty and his family and friends in our prayers of compassion and loving kindness.

Celebrating the life of Dr. Bayard Lacey Catron III
It was our honor to celebrate the life of Bayard with his family in our new chapel. He was a child of this church and long time member. His life exemplified thoughtful engagement, spiritual quest, and commitments to social justice.

Faith and Fellowship to meet August 1st
Faith and Fellowship will meet Aug. 1 at 10 am at Barb and Clark
Olson's home (address is in the directory). We are looking forward to
another year of fun conversation, supporting Matheney-Withrow

Outdoor Game Donation?
Matheney-Withrow Elementary is planning a family outdoor event and is
looking for new or used outdoor games. I know I have a Bocci Ball
game that is gathering dust because no one is around to use it. If
you have something like that and would like to donate it to the school
for outdoor activities, please contact Mary Young (contact info in
directory) to arrange to get it to the school.

Proposed Restructuring of Our Presbytery
The Governance Task Force presented the proposed presbytery restructuring at the April 29 assembly. Over the next several weeks, the task force will address the questions, concerns, and requests for additional information. There is still time to make your voice heard.
The task force has been engaging local Sessions and individuals in conversations about the proposed changes. They have been working to get as many voices at the table to help us move into this new season. This new structure is intended to help us serve one another better and develop stronger connectional bonds between each other as we improve our communication and care for one another.
To learn more about the proposals follow the links below:
You are welcome and encouraged to attend an in-person regional gathering to be held Sunday, July 27 at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield at 2:00 p.m.
The proposal will be voted on at the August Assembly meeting on August 19 at First Presbyterian Galesburg. Mike Orr will be attending.
You may contact the Task Force directly at pgrgovernancetaskforce@greatriverspby.org.

Hospital Notices
Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.

Coffee Fellowship

We are always grateful for coffee fellowship hosts. If you would like to volunteer please sign up in the commons. If you are interested in hosting but don't want to do it by yourself please let Michelle know and we can find a partner for you.

Thank you to everyone that shares in the Joy of Generosity at First Presbyterian! There are several ways to support our ministries and many ministries to support. In order to ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund, please take a moment to include the following information when making a donation:
-
Writing a check – Add the fund name in the memo section (Capital Campaign, Peacemaking, Samaritan Ministry, etc.)
-
Online portal – Select “Other Donations” when entering the amount then enter the name of the fund in the Notes section
-
Text giving – Text “$10 CC” to 217-284-2546, this example is a $10 donation for the Capitol Campaign fund. Other commonly used text codes are: Pledge, SM (Samaritan Ministries), Donate (Non-pledge), Peace, Joy, OGHS, Pentecost and BB (Brown Bag)
