One Great Hour of Sharing
The One Great Hour of Sharing Offering answers the call to do justice. Through this offering, we are responding to Christ's call to ministries of compassion for the world's most vulnerable. Together, we answer the prophet Micah's call to do justice by working to address hunger, disaster, oppression, climate change and mistreatment of immigration refugees. When we participate in One Great Hour of Sharing, we create possibility for people forced to flee their homes in search of safety. We support recovery efforts when disasters devastate communities. We empower partners to build sustainable futures. We walk along side our siblings to work for more just immigration laws and processes. Our gifts show people they are not alone. Christians they don't know see them and care enough to respond. So, please consider making a generous donation to this Presbyterian offering, which will be dedicated on Easter Sunday. Thanks!
| | First Presbyterian Church is grateful to have received a Healing Illinois grant to offer antiracism training to faith communities across our diverse traditions. SIAN is partnering with us to offer this excellent training. Each training requires a six hour commitment. We will provide nourishment for hearts, minds, and bodies. More details will be sent to registrants. | |
Faith and Fellowship change of schedule
We will gather at 10 am, on Friday, April 17 instead of Saturday the 18th.
| |
IL Symphony Orchestra will perform at First Presbyterian on April 10 @ 7:30
Experience the spirit of America in Simple Gifts featuring George Walker’s touching Lyric for Strings; Ernest Bloch’s energetic Concerto Grosso No. 1, where Baroque form meets 20th‑century boldness; and Aaron Copland’s iconic Appalachian Spring. Copland’s masterwork evokes the promise of new beginnings from its pastoral calm to the beloved variations on “Simple Gifts,” capturing the optimism of frontier life and American possibility!

Sharing God's Hospitality
Our congregation began reflecting on who we are and how God is calling us way back in 2018. We began our renovations in late 2023. The vision driving our efforts has been to make our space accessible, beautiful, and functional so we can share it with the community. This vision is coming alive!
In the past month, these are some of the groups we have welcomed into the building.
Joy of Movement
Faith Coalition for the Common Good
Charles Boteler - Lincoln Talk
IL Symphony Youth Orchestra
Rooted in Springfield
Democratic Socialists of America
Repair Workshop planning
Capitol City Contra Dancing
Springfield Choral Society
IL Department of Public Health
Coalition for Springfield's Utility Future
Justice Voices
ORCHID Academy
Greater Springfield Interfaith Association
This month we offered tours to our ministry partners in town.

Samaritan Ministries
Through our Samaritan Ministries, we support our neighbors with food, birth certificates, transportation to medical appointments and work, plus occasional needs unmet by other programs.
We support this ministry through our budget and direct donations. You can donate with a memo on your contribution or through any loose plate offering on the last Sunday of each month.
Thank you for your generosity!

Please share this job listing with friends outside the congregation who might be a good fit for us. While we love our church members, to prevent a potential conflict of interest we are only receiving applications from non-members.

Do You Enjoy leading worship?
If so, we need your help. We are looking for more people to help read liturgy for the Zoom service. If you are interested please contact Michelle.

GOD'S DOORS NEED A REFRESH
Our "iconic" rainbow doors have served us well for several years now. They have withstood all types of weather conditions and now they are ready for a refresh. We would like to take the doors down and do a little scraping, sanding, painting, and re-lettering. Our goal is to have it back in place by Pridefest (May 16). Can we assemble a team of folks to take on this task? Please let Tim know if you would like to help.

Donations for Cuba
Session has approved collection of funds to support the church in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba. The situation in Cuba continues to spiral downward. Fuel is being restricted to hospitals and ambulances. As of this week, we are able to send groceries to Sancti Spiritus, again.

Please put Cuba in the memo.

Cuban Art Exhibition Upstairs
A team of our church members had planned to visit our Cuban cousins in Sancti Spiritus this month. Unfortunately, due to the US embargo, we had to postpone our visit to share 22 years of our partnership with La Iglesia Presbiteriana-Reformada. We have created an exhibition of artwork from Cuban artists and photographs of Cuba by Chris Young. Please come experience the gallery on the second floor next to the new chapel!

Please know that our Pastor and Chaplain are here for you. You may contact them at:

Hospital Notices
Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.
| |
Coffee Fellowship
Thank you to all who have provided goodies and made coffee so that we can fellowship together after service.
We are always grateful for coffee fellowship hosts. If you would like to volunteer please email Michelle. If you are interested in hosting but don't want to do it by yourself please let Michelle know and we can find a partner for you.

Shelter Meal Volunteers
Jesus says: "For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in."
~Matthew 25:35
If it blesses you to help feed our neighbors, please join us on April 14 and/or April 28. You can assist with the preparation of the meals, serving, visiting or all of the above. If you are interested or have questions, please see Linda Johnson, Keith Dhom, or Frank Schultz.

Thank you to everyone that shares in the Joy of Generosity at First Presbyterian! There are several ways to support our ministries and many ministries to support. In order to ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund, please take a moment to include the following information when making a donation:
-
Writing a check – Add the fund name in the memo section (Capital Campaign, Peacemaking, Samaritan Ministry, etc.)
-
Online portal – Select “Other Donations” when entering the amount then enter the name of the fund in the Notes section
-
Text giving – Text “$10 CC” to 217-284-2546, this example is a $10 donation for the Capitol Campaign fund. Other commonly used text codes are: Pledge, SM (Samaritan Ministries), Donate (Non-pledge), Peace, Joy, OGHS, Pentecost and BB (Brown Bag)
