Come March with Us at Pridefest May 20!
Let’s fill the street this year with our biggest group of marchers yet! Anyone and everyone (you don’t have to be a church member) can march with us in the Pridefest Parade. It is our most public opportunity to show our church’s love and support for LGBTQIA+ folks in our community.
You don’t have to sign up to march. Just show up at 11:00! Folks are gathering on South 5th Street by Staab Funeral Home. You can park at the Chicago Title building (1043 S. 5th) or at the church and walk down. If you have a First Presbyterian shirt, wear it with pride. To find us, look for our First Presbyterian banners and folks in our T-shirts. Enjoy the experience!
| |
Come Visit our Pridefest Booth
After the parade or anytime from 12:00 – 6:00 come visit our booth. The booth will be located near the corner of Fifth and Capitol.
We are offering blessings for those who wish to receive them. We have a photo op in front of angel wings. And we have a large assortment of tchotchke’s (stickers, bookmarks, magnets, Ukraine pins, brochures) for you to take home.

Join us for Worship in the Garden! | Join us in our beautiful garden for Wednesday worship. Service begins at 5:30 pm. Pastor Susan, Chaplain Tim, and Emily Wheeler guide us in worship each week. | |

Sign Up for the Morning Crew
We are looking for early rising individuals with a heart for our neighbors to be a part of our morning crew. Volunteers will join Michelle Wilson at 7:30 a.m. as she opens up the garden area. As the weather warms we often encounter individuals who have taken shelter in our garden overnight. Morning crew volunteers will positively interact with our neighbors while encouraging them to start their day. Volunteers also assist Michelle in cleaning up the garden area. We are currently looking for volunteers available either Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings. If you are interested or have questions please contact Chaplain Tim Haworth.

Shelter Meal Volunteers
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me In.
Matthew 25:35
We are looking for volunteers to join our shelter meal teams. We usually do two meals a month. 2nd Tuesday of the month for Helping Hands.
4th Tuesday for Overflow Shelter (Salvation Army).
If it blesses you to help feed our neighbors, please join us. You can assist with the preparation of the meals, serving, visiting or all of the above. If you are interested or have questions, please see Keith Dhom or Frank Schultz.

Contributions to the Pentecost Offering
We are there to create opportunities for young people to grow, thrive and take part in building up the body of Christ through our gifts to the Pentecost Offering. Please consider making a generous gift to the Pentecost Offering, which helps the church encourage, develop, and support its young people, and also address the needs of at-risk children. 40% of the Pentecost offering is retained by our congregation, helping fund our Mission Committee's on going support of students at Matheny-Withrow School. The remaining 60% is used to support children-at-risk, youth, and young adults through ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency.

Answering God’s call begins with a heartfelt prayer for faith
by Leisa TonieAnn Wagstaff | Special to Presbyterian News Service
I always knew—as simple as this—that God was calling me to full-time ministry. Growing up in a rural and traditional African-American faith setting, however, I could not imagine opportunities for a future in ministry. The people who had answered God’s call were all preachers—and all men. I remember begging God to not make me be a preacher, for I did not want to be the lone female. The only other option I was aware of was to become a nun.
