Season of Creation

This is River Sunday. The Season of Creation offers intentional time to consider the role of all creation in Bible stories and in our lives, and to remember that humans are just one part of the ever-unfolding story of God’s creation. Join us for worship Sundays and Wednesdays as we celebrate this season.

Join the choir! Singing has always been an important part of First Presbyterian Church's worship service. We are delighted to announce choir has begun. For those planning to attend the onsite service Sunday, September 27th please note that the Rt. 66 Car Show has most of the downtown area blocked off.

We invite you to bring your pet or stuffed animal to service on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 5:30 pm as we give thanks for the ways that animals bless us. This wonderful service brings blessings to our pets, stuffies, and their companions. We will also offer prayers of healing and comfort for those who have experienced loss. 

Please be sure to bring a leash, harness, or carrier for your pet. If you are unable to bring your pet, you can bring a picture or some other remembrance.

Springfield CROP Hunger Walk October 4th

Once again, Springfield CROP Hunger Walk will take place the first Sunday of October (October 4th) with the proceeds going to international and local food programs. Our Grace Food Pantry receives funds from this effort. The walk will begin at Third Presbyterian Church, 1030 N 7th Street, with registration at 1:00 pm and the walk starting at 1:30. You can support this effort by taking a walker envelope and soliciting donations, whether you actually walk the two miles or not. Those who raise funds will receive a beautiful free t-shirt. You can also support the walk by donating through a church member who is soliciting funds. Our church Mission Committee will make it's annual $1,000 donation to this worthy cause as well. Don Ecklund will be handing out walker donation envelopes for those willing to seek donations from others. Thanks to all for your generous support. 

World Communion Offering

The World Communion Offering works to ensure all God’s people flourish as God intends through ministries working for racial justice, gender justice, peacemaking, global witness, and ecumenical and interfaith relations.

SIAN needs volunteers. The Springfield Immigrant Advocacy Network (SIAN) welcomes your inquiries about volunteering with its Healthy Food Delivery Program. Thanks in no small part to the generous financial support of First Presbyterian Church, it now reaches about 80 families with fresh, nutritious and culturally relevant food. Every other Sunday in the early afternoon, volunteers assist with grocery shopping, food packing and loading up delivery cars. Some later serve as drivers. Its lead volunteers have developed a well-oiled machine to do it all in a very short time, and it is a joyful experience in community. These volunteers and supporters like First Presbyterian are the lifeblood of the program. We are now ready to start sharing the beautiful FREE book library in the Reception Hall next to the couch. If you have any gently used books that have been inspiring to you and you would like to share them leave them in the library.

Thanks to everyone whose donations keep this vital ministry going. Any and all are welcome to donate food items. Simply place them in the cabinet. Please note that our partners at Grace Food Pantry bring a number of items to our micropantry every Thursday. 

Many people are being served through our micropantry and during the summer months they often need water. Please avoid placing glass containers in the cabinet.

Nursery is Available

The nursery is available for parents to use with their little ones. You are free to use the nursery on Sunday mornings and during church events. Child care is not provided at this time so you will need to stay with your child while there.

Hospital Notices

Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.

Shelter Meal Volunteers

Different Ways to Give

Thank you to everyone that shares in the Joy of Generosity at First Presbyterian! There are several ways to support our ministries and many ministries to support. In order to ensure your gift is credited to the correct fund, please take a moment to include the following information when making a donation:

1. Writing a check – Add the fund name in the memo section (Capital Campaign, Peacemaking, Samaritan Ministry, etc.)
2. Online portal – Select “Other Donations” when entering the amount then enter the name of the fund in the Notes section
3. Text giving – Text “$10 CC” to 217-284-2546, this example is a $10 donation for the Capitol Campaign fund. Other commonly used text codes are: Pledge, SM (Samaritan Ministries), Donate (Non-pledge), Peace, Joy, OGHS, Pentecost and BB (Brown Bag)
