We are Certified!!

After twenty-eight months of renovation and construction, we received our Permanent Occupancy certificate from the City of Springfield. Thanks be to G-d for bringing us through this journey and into new accessible, beautiful, and functional spaces!

We have already begun sharing space with the Joy of Movement (exercise for folks with Parkinson’s), a home school group, our Samaritan Ministries Social Services Desk, a dance group, Faith Coalition for the Common Good, and others. We are Generations Building Joy and we are building community.

Gratitude for Gratitude Reception

Oh my goodness!

Last Saturday afternoon’s Gratitude Reception on MLK weekend for local community organizers and church members was amazing!

Having the opportunity to meet Shailly Gupta Barnes and Phil Wider from the Kairos Center in New York City was a gift. Gathering dozens of neighbors who volunteer their energy and vision to make our community more healthy and equitable was beautiful. Thanking these friends for all of their efforts to change policies and practices is particularly fitting for a holiday weekend that honors King’s civil rights work.

Our members did a fabulous job with warm hospitality and shared gratitude!

We are grateful for the beautiful, diverse, interfaith prayer service we hosted Friday at noon. Jewish, Christian (Catholic and Protestant), Muslim, Unitarians, of many colors and languages joined our voices in song, prayers, and reflections. It was inspiring to be together. A recording of the service will be available next week.

You Only Get What You're Organized To Take Online Study, Winter 2026

Registration Deadline, Friday, January 30.

We're excited to invite you to join an 8-week online study of You Only Get What You’re Organized to Take: Lessons from the Movement to End Poverty, by Rev. Liz Theoharis and Noam Sandweiss-Back!

This study is for people who are organizing with the Kairos Center through the Season of Survival Revivals, The Young Organizers Survival Corps, Songs in the Key of Resistance, or Freedom Church of the Poor. This study of YOGWYOTT will be an opportunity to apply lessons from the book to our organizing, share insights, challenges and questions from our work, and to deepen relationships across these different Kairos areas of work. We hope you'll join us!  Link for more info and to register

Matheny-Withrow Elementary is doing a whole school coat give away for all 14 of their classrooms.

Last week they were able to put coats on about 7 classrooms full of students. They are in need of new, like new or good condition coats for the remaining 7 classrooms. The sizes they are in need of are sizes 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 18 in boys and girls.

They have enough hats and gloves for all the students but currently need about 120 more coats. If you would like to donate you can drop off at the school located at 1200 South Pope.

If you want to make a donation, checks can be written out to Matheny- Withrow Elementary. Please do not send money to anyone personally.

Micropantry

We are excited to announce that our micropantry has been restored, installed and is once again open for business!

Click here for a list of items that can be used to stock the pantry.

Thanks to everyone who makes this ministry happen.

Please note that our partners at Grace Lutheran food pantry bring a number of items to our micropantry every Thursday. So, if you are trying to decide when you might want to bring something to add, we would recommend the beginning of the week.

Nursery

The nursery is now available for parents to use with their little ones. You are free to use the nursery on Sunday mornings and during church events. Child care is not provided at this time so you will need to stay with your child while there.

Hospital Notices

Please note that the hospitals no longer contact local churches to let them know when a member is admitted. We encourage members and friends of First Presbyterian to call the church office to let us know when you go to the hospital so Pastor Susan and Chaplain Tim can provide pastoral support if it blesses you. We do not share any information without permission.

Coffee Fellowship

Thank you to all who have provided goodies and made coffee so that we can fellowship together after service.

We are always grateful for coffee fellowship hosts. If you would like to volunteer please sign up in the commons. If you are interested in hosting but don't want to do it by yourself please let Michelle know and we can find a partner for you.
